Florida Vacation Spots for Families
We love the theme parks and water parks of Orlando, the manatees in Tampa, the nature respite of Captiva Island and Florida state parks. We’ve been there — from beach town escapes to the nightlife of Miami’s South Beach.
Natural beauty is the big draw in the Sunshine State, from the white sand beaches of Pensacola to the wonders of the J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island. Kayaking among the mangroves is one of our favorite ways to get kids close to nature, although snorkeling the coral reef in the Florida Keys is fun too.
We also like ogling the alligators in the Everglades National Park (from a distance) and building castles on a sandy beach. We’ve taken biking and boat tours, explored the stars at the Kennedy Space Center and soaked up culture at the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg. More adventuresome TravelingMoms prefer scuba diving, windsurfing or one of the many other water sports available at Florida’s seaside vacation destinations.
Ah, yes. We love Florida beaches! Our favorites along the Gulf Coast include Panama City Beach, Clearwater Beach, and the beaches of Sarasota, Fort Myers, and Naples. On the ocean side, we like Fort Lauderdale, Daytona Beach, Miami Beach, Delray Beach and Palm Beach.
Florida is prime road trip country, which means it’s easy to give the kids a few days of fun with the roller coasters and character encounters of Walt Disney World, then ending the family vacation exploring St. Augustine, the Spanish-influenced oldest city in America. Talk about a well-rounded trip!
