Is your family planning a trip to Disney World this summer? If so, you definitely won’t want to miss the Toy Story Land opening at Hollywood Studios. With all new Walt Disney World attractions built around the Toy Story theme, this is the most anticipated Disney event of the summer. Find out just what you can expect in this sneak peek and learn where you’ll need to keep an eye out for “the claw”.
I just returned from Walt Disney World where everybody is talking about the exciting things coming to Hollywood Studios! Between the new Toy Story Land opening and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge coming in 2019, Disney fans have a lot to look forward to.
If you missed the big announcement, Disney revealed that Toy Story Land will be opening on June 30th. Covering 11 acres in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the buzz over this new addition is through the roof! With all new rides, a restaurant and more, it’s going to be huge!
Haven’t been following along? Here’s what you have to look forward to.
Toy Story Land Opening: What To Expect
If you enjoyed the larger than life feel of the old Honey, I Shrunk The Kids play area, you’ll feel right at home in Andy’s backyard! This new land makes you feel like you’ve been reduced to the size of a toy. What kid wouldn’t love being surrounded by giant games, crayons, green army men and building blocks? My six-year-old is going to be in heaven!
Slinky Dog Dash Rollercoaster
With a height requirement of 38″, the Slinky Dog Dash is a family friendly ride that even the smaller kids can enjoy. It looks like this coaster will be similar to Goofy’s Barnstormer in the Magic Kingdom, one of our family’s favorites.
You’ll sit in Slinky Dog as he zips around the track and gives you panoramic views of all of Toy Story Land. It’s colorful and fun and I can already tell that this ride is going to be a fan favorite (meaning you’ll want to get there early to beat the lines!).
Alien Swirling Saucers
Who wouldn’t want to ride in one of these?! You’ll hop aboard an Alien Swirling Saucer where you’ll ride through a play set that Andy won at Pizza Planet. If you’re lucky, you might just get chosen by “The Claw”. I haven’t been able to find out exactly what that means so I guess it’ll just have to be a surprise.
With fun music, lighting, and sound effects, this ride is also family friendly with a height limit of just 32″.
Toy Story Mania
Every time I ride Toy Story Mania, I want to do it over and over again. It’s easy to see why it’s one of the most popular rides in Hollywood Studios! Just waiting in line for it is fun because you get to wander through giant games, oversized toy airplanes and more. In this 3D midway style shooting game, you’ll pop balloons with “darts”, throw virtual baseballs at plates and engage in more target practice as you compete against your family or friends for the high score.
Toy Story Mania is getting an update just in time for the grand opening. It’ll feature an all-new entrance designed to look like a toy carnival game box. Disney recently added a third track as well, which should help cut down on long wait times.
Woody’s Lunch Box
If you get hungry after riding the attractions, you can drop by Woody’s Lunch Box for a bite to eat. Walk up to the window to order tasty meals, old-fashioned soda floats or even mini Babybel cheese to snack on. In fitting with the theme, the restaurant is surrounded by a giant vintage thermos and some of Andy’s favorite toys.
I loved getting a sneak peek at what was coming up and even made a couple new friends while I was there!
If you’re in Hollywood Studios between now and June 30th, you can check out the model of the new Toy Story Land at Walt Disney Presents. It’s just off to the right of the Chinese theater.
The debut of these new Walt Disney World attractions are going to be the event of the summer at Hollywood Studios! Be sure to check back in late June and July when TravelingMom will be sharing all the awesome behind the scenes details!
