Staying cool in the Sunshine State is the name of the game, especially in the summer months. In addition, many people need a break from the Disney Parks during a stay because the heat can become unbearable. So where can a person stay cool and still have some Disney fun? Disney Springs offers some clever and scenic places to shop, eat…and beat the heat!
How To Really Stay Cool at Disney Springs
Staying cool involves more than just NOT being in the direct heat of the sun. It also means getting in a space to relax, away from the close proximity of the crowds. Additionally, beating the heat means time to refresh and relax your mind, as well as refueling the body to keep energy up to have big fun! We found all that and more at Disney Springs. Check out these Disney World tips for staying cool at Disney Springs.
May I just say that just SEEING water has a cooling effect? The architects of Disney Springs must’ve known that when they designed the numeous fountains there. They are everywhere! Well, okay… I saw at least 3, and they are strategically placed at what feels like regular intervals. I like to sit by them, feel the gentle spray, and dip my hand in from time to time. Not only do they add an elegance to the shopping space, but the fountains provide a small oasis to keep you thinking cool thoughts.
2. Cooling Genius: A Covered Walkway
There is nothing more refreshing than a bench, shade, and a cool breeze. The covered walkway next to Vince Camuto offers this wonderful convergence of circumstances for the weary shopper. This open space is a the breezeway to top all breezeways (in my humble opinion). It offers a place to sit and recuperate before going back out in the hot sun. The benches are surprisingly comfortable, and the airflow is steady. Whether you are coming from the bus drop off or going to catch one, this spot is perfectly situated to refresh.
A Note for the Road Warriors
Let me just say here that for the family who makes a road trip to Disney, having a vehicle with certain creature comforts can be instrumental in staying cool. My family trips to WDW have included 7 of us, and it was always easier to navigate the heat with a car of our own. We could ride together and sit in individual seats instead of being crammed on a bus during a busy time of day. We could control our own car temps, especially for those who needed more air conditioning!
Of course, having your own vehicle makes it easier to get to Disney Springs with a modicum of comfort. I personally recommend checking out the 2018 Ford Expedition for your travels. It is has space to 7 adults plus luggage and/or all the gear for little ones. Check out the fun way we found out how much it can hold:

3. One of My New Favorite Places to Stay Cool
My bestie and I found this next spot accidentally on our way to our dinner reservation. We arrived to Disney Springs via a boat ride on Lake Buena Vista (a great option and wonderful views, by the way). As we disembarked, we happened upon the open space between Bongos and Wolfgang Puck Café:
This is such an awesome place to cool down, especially with a water fountain…and a superb view of the Lake as well!
4. Beat the Heat with Indoor Family Fun
I know that for me and my family, getting indoors is essential to everyone staying cool. But a family that includes teens, young adults, and middle-aged adults does not want to be stuck in the same retail store for an extended period of time. So how about a visit to Splitsville Luxury Lanes? It’s air-conditioned, and this 2 story facility offers bowling AND food.
5. A Hidden Place for Shade
This next one is a bit of a hidden gem. Tucked away behind the Steakhouse STK, there is a sitting area. This area faces Planet Hollywood and it includes a fountain and beds of flowers. This tucked away nook is quite a respite from the crowds and the heat.
6. Find Shade Under an Umbrella
This next spot is quite handy for getting a bit of shade in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the crowds. Located in front of Uniqlo, these tables are covered with a canopy of large umbrellas. They are great for shielding baby in a stroller from the sun, as well as for grabbing a bite to eat.
7. Stay Cool with a Refreshing Treat
Right in front of the main entrance to World of Disney is an Italian Ice stand, a perfect treat for those sweltering days. This is another spot, near the water, that has umbrella covered tables to eat a cold treat and take a load off of one’s feet.
With Disney Springs being an ideal location to cool off, it can be convenient to book a stay nearby for the family. The Wyndham Lake Buena Vista is a very short walk on foot to Disney Springs. I enjoyed the short trek (no lie, less that 5 minutes is all it takes.) It’s a safe walk as well for the whole family, especially with easy access to the bridge that carries pedestrians safely over the road traffic below. In addition, the property is an official Disney resort! It offers regular bus transportation to the Parks and special views for the nightly fireworks in the Magic Kingdom.
