The-GunclesAmerica has fallen in love with The Guncles—a.k.a. Bill Horn and Scout Masterson. They first caught our attention on Tori Spelling’s reality show, Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood, and have continued to capture interest by sharing with us their journey of an open adoption. Enter the lovely 2-year-old Simone, changing their lives for the better, forever.
My friends Bill and Scout took some time out to share their traveling advice for parents with me.  It’s nice to see that even celebrity parents aren’t that different when it comes to tackling the idea of traveling with toddlers!

Heather: What is your favorite family vacation spot thus far with Simone?

Bill & Scout: Our family is all about the getaway to which we can drive. Otherwise, it’s not relaxing for us! We’re all about the La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, CA. We love the family vibe there and the restaurants are set on a beautiful landscape with delicious food (very kid friendly!). Also, their pool is super fun for kids, with big and small water slides (toddlers can ride the small one) and they have an awesome kids club, “Kidtopia”. They definitely get an A+ from us. We’d also love to try some of the other resorts around the San Diego and Palm Springs area.
Heather: Do you spend more time preparing for vacations when it’s just the two of you, or when it’s the whole family?
Bill & Scout: Unless it’s a quick work trip, we never go on a trip without Simone. She’s too much fun!
Heather: What are your best packing tips for adults and for kids?bill simone
Bill & Scout: Our best packing tip for adults is to roll your clothes in the suitcase. We’re not sure why everyone doesn’t do this. Rolling up your shirts and jeans is a HUGE space saver!Since we drive to most of our trips, we generally just pack a small supply of diapers, wipes, snacks etc and then once we’re settled into the hotel room, we drive to the local grocery and pick up the necessities. For us, it’s just easier than lugging everything back and forth!
Heather: Do you find yourselves packing the day before a trip, or a week before?
Bill & Scout: While our intentions are always good to pack ahead, Simone’s suitcase ends up getting packed for days in advance, then we just end up packing for ourselves literally an hour before the trip.
Heather: What’s on the travel schedule for the rest of the year?
Bill & Scout: Spending time with Bill’s family in NYC sometime this Fall.
Heather: What’s your funniest travel story thus far with Simone?
Bill & Scout: Simone is obsessed with room service (well, maybe her Dads taught her to love it so much!). She thinks it’s so cool when we lounge around the room and the food magically appears at the door. She’s always making friends with the delivery people and gives them big hugs. That’s our girl!

Thank you so much, Bill and Scout, for taking a minute to chat with me about the importance of family travel.  I wish you many more happy adventures with Simone, and please keep us updated on your travel adventures and finds!
