The Omni Hotel understands what families want and need, and delivers in spectacular fashion in its family suites. In fact, it was the best-appointed family suite we’ve encountered in our travels. Superior amenities for children respect their intelligence, and tasteful appointments for their parents offer luxury and comfort without pretense.

The fun begins at the check-in desk.  Each child who checks into the Omni receives a backpack filled with goodies like an Omni teddy bear, kazoos and kaleidoscopes.  The Omni California family suite features a theme of lions, tigers, and bears, and stuffed versions of these fluffy beasts appear on the bunk beds and sleeper sofas.  Books in the bookrack continue the theme, and there is even a puppet theater for the little ones.  My kids really appreciated the beanbag chairs too for tv watching.

Even the Omni’s snacks in the suite’s minifridge were well thought out, with an eye toward health rather than empty calories  – carrots, yogurt, milk, cereal, juice and skittles, with no item over $2.

The Omni wisely introduces an educational element for its youngest guests in the family suite too.  Thirty dollars of your room fee goes toward “adoption” of an animal at the San Francisco Zoo.  A colorful information packet in the room brings facts about your animal to life, and helps kids personalize their impact on conservation.

The parents room in our tasteful animal-oriented family suite was a treat for weary travelers too, with its super-comfortable and gorgeous bedding, more healthy snacks, and plenty of space for luggage and all our travel gear.  The suite was a joy to return to after a full day of sightseeing and activities, with lots of room for everyone while still facilitating our family time together.  In fact, the only drawback is that you and your kids will never want to leave!
