The first holiday season with baby is such a magical experience. Even if I don’t celebrate Christmas, I love the spirit of the holidays and wanted to experience all the elements with my son who was only nine months old at that time. Here are some ideas for what to do with baby in tow.

1. See a holiday tree

There are lots of indoor and outdoor options. I took my baby to see several last year from a tree near by mall to the Rockefeller tree. I avoided the day of the tree lighting to keep away from the crowds. We timed our visits to make sure he was well fed and rested.

 2. Shop at a holiday market

Holiday markets are fun places to stroll through with baby. If you plan to be outside for an extended period, make sure to bring extra blankets or a stroller cover.

3. Visit Santa

The first visit to Santa is such a photo-op moment for parents. We visited him at a neighborhood mall. My husband and I alternated in the long line while the other entertained the baby at bright colored store windows.

4. Enjoy the holiday lights

We have always enjoyed the store fronts in New York City and with baby we made no exception. When we wanted to get a closer a look at the windows, we visited during daytime. At night time, we chose to do a drive through to spare the baby from the chilly temperatures.
