Our husbands are both triathletes, so many of our vacations are centered around swim, bike, and run activities.  This means we are constantly on the lookout for trips we can both enjoy.  Since a big part of their training is cycling and we like to ride, nothing too strenuous mind you, we gravitate towards cycling vacations with some luxury thrown in!

We’re sharing with you four of our favorite vacations whether you’re looking for a gift idea or just want a more active vacation you both or the family can enjoy.

Trek Travel

Unless you’re a cyclist or a triathlete, you may not have heard of Trek bicycles.  But, let me tell you, they not only make great bikes, my husband has ridden one for years, but they offer great cycling trips, too.  Trek has put together bike trips around the world, such as a California Wine Country Luxury to a Mallorca 7-Day Ride Camp with a trip from Prague to Vienna thrown in for the family.  The best part is that you can choose from a variety of trips and at different riding abilities and preferences.

They offer four levels of activity from leisure to avid; from world class accommodations to camping; and from family trips to race bike tours, like Tour de France. The trips are pretty much all-inclusive, except for your travel to and from and range in price from between $1,000 – 5,000 per person. And when I say Trek Travel is all-inclusive, I’m talking about the use of one of their Trek bikes, sure to be a cyclist or triathlete pleaser!

Hotel Domestique

I found the Hotel Domestique in South Carolina a few years ago when I was looking for a holiday gift for my husband.  It offered not only a chance for my husband to ride in beautiful country, but gave me a terrific and luxurious place to vacation. Your triathlete gets a tricamp and you get luxury accommodations and gourmet food.  Literally, the best of both worlds.  This is a gorgeous European style hotel located in the Blue Ridge Mountains and close to both Asheville and Greenville, SC.  So, besides the great room and food, you can go shopping and find tons of cultural events to make you happy.

Duvine Cycling Tour

This is another great company that offers cycling adventures around the world.  How about a vacation where there are things to do that both of you will love – think bike riding, wine tasting, and cooking classes.  Sound good?  In the States, there’s a Santa Barbara Wine Country Bike Tour and internationally, think Mallorca. We’ve been to both on vacations and for a race and you can’t go wrong with either selection.  Duvine is a cycling adventure company that offers a wide variety of tours.  We’re not talking inexpensive here, but it’s a great chance for some together time.

Coach Mark Wilson

This trip is a bit different and not really for both of you, but it is offered in REALLY good vacation spots, so we’re including it here.  Mark Wilson is a Professional Life & Triathlon Coach and the Founder/President of the Hudson Valley Triathlon Club. He not only provides coaching services to triathletes of all abilities, but leads several clinics and 4 to 7 day triathlon camps across the country.   We’re talking Naples, Napa Valley, Mont Tremblant, Lake Placid, and San Francisco to name a few.

We’re sure you’d be happy to play tourist while your triathlete trains!  I can vouch for this method of vacation having done it with my husband in Sausalito several years ago.  I was able to sight see, take a hike, meet new people, enjoy the spa, chat with the chef, etc. while my husband was off doing his thing.  Then, at night, we enjoyed a great dinner together and compared how are days went.  True bliss…
