With fall colors popping up around the country and great travel deals available during the fall season we gathered on 9/30 on our weekly twitter travel chat to talk fall travel. We covered must see fall attractions, haunted houses and haunted hotels (and chainsaw corn mazes?!), and where to find the best apple and pumpkin pie in our respective areas. Read on for a summary of our chat. Didn’t make it this time? Join us on next week’s chat- Photo Do-Overs.

WHAT’S THE BEST THING ABOUT FALL TRAVEL? WHY?

@kristin_welch Different landscapes & changing colors of leaves, grass, etc. It’s all so pretty!!

@bodinesteph The beautiful fall colors and cool weather.

@DebMomof3 Getting the chance to see fall colors in other areas, such a great time of the year for road trips. Love taking fall color photos!

@MaryHeston Fall Travel is so relaxing – slower pace – fewer crowds.

@DesertChica I love the lighter crowds. Fall is our favorite time to visit @Disneyland. In fact we were there last week with low crowds!

@BeckyAdventure The cooler temps. I hate traveling when it is all HOT & Sticky!

@stuffedsuitcase I love the lower crowd levels & good travel pricing during fall trips.

@runitbymom Cozy sweaters and coffee.

WOULD YOU/HAVE YOU STAYED IN A HAUNTED HOTEL? WHY? WHY NOT?

@ProductJunkieCA No way! Because that stuff scares me!

@Saving4Jewels No I’m such a chicken maybe the Disney Haunted Hotel since I know Cruella wouldn’t do much.

@JULIE_CONN I would stay in a haunted hotel if the price is right.

@kjmaje Never have, only if it has WiFi!

@GetSkyMed Oh heck no. Being scared makes my head want to pop! I hate it!

@DaddyMojo I stayed in a haunted hotel in Edinburgh, Scotland, but didn’t hear or see anything. It was quite pretty though.

@TraverseTravelr No haunted hotels for me. Although I would be willing to visit during the day.

HOW FAR WOULD YOU DRIVE TO SEE FALL COLORS? WHERE?

@BeckyAdventure We live in the Midwest so we are very colorful. I would say everyone come visit us!

@kjmaje I love going to the White Mountains in New Hampshire!

@kristin_welch I wouldn’t drive far because I don’t have to. Beautiful colors here in KY,esp on horse farms/country side!

@GetSkyMed Driving probably New Mexico, anything else would have to be by air! Would love to visit east coast again…

@TibsTravel I hate driving—but fall colors lure me anyway. They infuse new energies. So worth the effort to set forth.

WHAT IS THE BEST FALL/OFF-SEASON DESTINATION? WHY?

@kimorlando Mexico- cheaper flights/hotel.

@mommy3sons I would have to say NC because of the Smoky Mtns and beautiful fall leaves but I am a little partial.

@MaryHeston Theme Parks & Nat’l Parks are great in the fall. Smaller crowds.

@MomishStyle Great weather to see the Grand Canyon.

@avasmom0512 Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is reason enough to go to Disney World in the fall.

WHERE HAVE YOU HAD THE BEST PUMPKIN OR APPLE PIE?

@4jlessad The “Traverse City Pie Company” Traverse City Michigan.

@GetSkyMed I do have to say, though, the apple pie at the Pie-o-neer in Pietown New Mexico was pretty wicked. Hot out of the oven. Mmm.

@mommy3sons Apple pie would be at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge TN.

@furrykarma Binghams off I-81 near Kingsley PA (on way to Rochester). Berries of the Forest is my actual favorite.

@bodinesteph The Market at Styers orchard in Langhorne,PA! They have the best pies!!!!

WHERE’S THE BEST FALL ATTRACTION NEAR YOU? WHAT? WHY?

@mimitravelz Theme parks: Disneyland’s Halloween’s Time & Knott’s Scary Farm. But also SoCal harvest festivals 4 produce, games, pumpkins.

@CindyRichards Punkin’ Chuckin’ in Morton Illinois. Can’t help but smile when they shoot pumpkins out of cannons.

@ShannonEntin Schaefer Farm in Flemington, NJ – best haunted hay ride and corn maze w/chainsaws. SO scary – LOVE it!!

@BeckyAdventure Haunted Hill in Waynesville MO. the place creeped me out during the day!

@SheBuysCars Fave fall destination? Corn mazes in the Hamptons. And again, no crowds (can you tell that matters to us???)

@kimorlando In CT, Drive up Route 15 or Taconic for views.

@AndreaGuthmann For my teens it’s Six Flags Fright Fest, for my kindergartner, it’s scarecrow festival at the local nature center!

@bodinesteph Raubs Farm Market in Easton,PA has 14 acre corn maze!

@CauriePutnam A very cool annual glass pumpkin sale by art students at Rochester Institute of Technology.

@sweetmatcha The Haunted Pumpkin Farm at the New York Botanical Gardens!
