autumnVibrant, colorful leaves, pumpkins galore, cozy, warm meals – what’s not to love about fall? That’s why we devoted our October 3 Monday Night Twitter Party to Fall Travel. If you’re looking for some autumn fun, read on for ideas for great fall family vacation fall destinations, Halloween events and the most scenic places to take your kids. We even have ways to turn the changing seasons into an educational experience.

Do you travel in the fall (even day trips)? Where?

@drupmcp: Into the Michigan countryside. Michigan is great for fall leaves.

@judy511:: Travel soccer tourneys!

@candyland0606:: We actually just came back from a trip to the Texas coast (off season, school’s back in, still warm out)

@MOM4EVEREVER:: We go camping at least once and a lot of day trips to forest preserves.

@DebMomOf3:: We always do a day trip with friends to the same pumpkin patch/apple orchard every October. So much fun! http://bit.ly/qfYjBC

What are some fun fall activities near your?

@AndreaGuthmann:: Starved Rock is my favorite near Chicago for fantastic fall colors. Hiking is spectacular there!

@mellanhead:: We have Fright Fest, pumpkin patch, hayrides.

@CindyRichards:: Just went to a very cool haunted house–Screams–in Rosemont (Chicago suburb). Wasn’t sure I would survive, but I did

@judy511:: Apple picking, hiking, new Bway shows

@mimitravelz:: Lots of pumpkin farms, patches and apple orchards. Love making apple cider at the apple orchards

Where’s the best place to see fall colors near you?

@shannonentin:: Bowman’s Tower: best place to see fall colors in W. NJ / E. PA: http://bit.ly/qqLomZ

@catholicfanatic:: We live near the mountains so it’s always great to drive to see the fall colors there

@charpolanosky:: That’s easy – Skyline Drive, Shenandoah Mountains.

Sometimes the best fall destinations don’t have to include the changing fall leaves…

@mimitravelz:: The beaches are ideal now. Fewer crowds and perfect weather.

@pudgebutters:: Anywhere near the water is picturesque.

How do you use fall to teach kids about nature?

@kevinbe1:: There’s a local nature center in a park that we take our kids to.

@candyland0606:: Pumpkin carving and leaf rubbings are fun ways.

@kimorlando:: Going to the corn maze in Lancaster PA soon

@DebMomOf3: Is good opportunity to talk about changing of seasons. Also teach responsibility by making them help rake leaves. 🙂

@vloky:: He’s about to turn 5, so simple stuff about things dying and coming back healthier, feeding earth, etc.

Where will you go for Columbus Day Weekend?

@kimorlando:: Going to Aruuuuuuuba!

And @DebMomof3, @MOM4EVEREVER: and @JennieBaird are attempting to sneak into @kimorlando:’s luggage!

@DebMomOf3:: Nowhere – we’re booked up w/ soccer games every Sat thru the 22nd. Might try to do our pumpkin patch day-trip that Sunday though

@mellanhead:: Maybe a hotel room for the night since my birthday is the next day

@kevinbe1:: To a local bonfire, then out of town for the day Saturday.

What great Halloween spots are near you?

@shannonentin:: My son and I LOVE Shaefer Farm’s FrightFest in NJ: http://bit.ly/nv6DoC

@DebMomOf3:: We have a big haunted house, but I’ve never been. Kids are too young for that still! http://www.the-haunt.com/

@judy511:: Prospect Park, BK haunted walk.

Thanks for a great night! Join us next Monday when we share stories of traveling to heal.
