The tween years may be the wonder years for travel. After all, they’re now old enough to participate in travel planning. They’re tall enough to ride the roller coaster. They’re totally potty trained, but still not old enough to have a part time job. They’re ready to go wherever we lead, making them the best kind of traveling companion…..most times. That’s why our September 19 #TMOM Twitter Party is all about Travel with Tweens. Join us at 9 p.m. Monday September 19 to discuss making memories on the road with our tweens – before they outgrow us!

September 19  #TMOM Twitter Party –  Travel With Tweens

They’re too young for a city’s night life, but too old for the kiddie menu. Old enough to want input on the trip planning, but too young to be left alone. And yes, they’ll want to spend time texting their friends back home when they travel, but they also want – crave – alone time with you.

They’re our tweens, and this week, our #TMOM Twitter party is all about them.

The time between toddlerhood and teenager is almost a “wonder years” for traveling children. They begin to remember and even appreciate the details of their trips. They are old enough to go on the scary rides, but still young enough to reach for our hand when the goblin jumps out from behind the tombstone.

Having a tween along for the ride can change everything. After all, they are old enough to have opinions – and they’ll make them heard. So we suggest letting them do some of the research before you travel. They’ll tell you that they’re different than their younger siblings, but they still enjoy a ride on the carousel. They may request a break from back-to-back museums, and they may thrive on outdoor activities. You may never get so many strong opinions – but then again, aren’t you tired of doing things alone?

Speaking of “alone,” what about friends? Should you let your tween invite a friend? If so, how do you choose?

And of course there’s the educational component. Should you pull your tweens out of school for your next trip? I do, without blinking – but I know others don’t share my opinion. That’s something worth discussing – and I’m sure it will come up at the next #TMOM Twitter Party on September 19!

So plan to join us at the next #TMOM Twitter party when we’ll be focusing on our tweens. Where to go, what to see, when to plan and what to take….we’ll answer your questions about the best way to travel with tweens. (Yes, even those moody ones!)  After all, we’ve been there – and the memories we have made with our tweens remind us that this age won’t last forever. So come chat with us at next Monday, September 19, at 9 p.m. EST, because before you know it, they’ll be teens – and that’s a whole ‘nuther party!
