Autumn is beckoning, blazing with color and cool breezes. It’s the perfect time for travel – but the kids are back in school, and you’re tied up with the challenges of juggling schedules, afterschool activities or, as many military moms know all too well, moving and starting a new school. If you refuse to give up on quality travel just because the kids are back to school, come strategize with us at the next #TMOM Twitter party. We’ll work together to meet the challenges – you might even walk off with a $250 #TownePlace gift card, courtesy of our sponsor, TownePlace Suites by Marriott.
All summer long, you were set for travel, but the weather wasn’t cooperating. Extreme heat – not to mention those crazy tornados and pesky rain storms – weren’t ideal for travel. Now autumn approaches, and the weather has finally caught up with your wonderful summer wanderlust. Time to head out on a new adventure, right?
Well, maybe. With a new season comes new challenges, and one of the biggest is looming in the sound of the school bell. Kids are headed back to the classrooms, which presents traveling families – and of course, TMOMs – with the difficulty of juggling our children’s school and extracurricular activities with our desire to see new things, experience new places and meet new people. How do we plan our fall getaways and still make sure our child is keeping up in the classroom? Do we dare have a child miss class so early in the semester – or do we leave him home and have him miss out on the experience?
Let’s sit down and talk it all out – TMOM style – at our next #TMOM Twitter party, all about the Challenges of Back to School. And we’re making it a #MilitaryMonday too, in honor of the challenges some of us face year after year, move after move.
Moms involved with the military – either as members themselves or as spouses of active duty personnel – are especially familiar with the challenges the return to school can bring. “Every time we had to move, it was to a whole new area. Everything was new,” says Meagan Shamy, our Miltary TMOM and mother of three. Her family was often placed in TFL – that’s temporary living facilities – while they looked for their next permanent home.
“When your whole family is living in a space for up to three months, you need more than a coffee maker,” she says. “The ideal space would be one where I could make a good breakfast for my kids in the morning and send them to school with a healthy lunch. We needed some place with wifi, laundry, and a fridge.”
Our Twitter party sponsors, TownePlaces Suites, are a home away from home for people like Meagan’s, who need more than a place to shower and store their suitcases. Their suites provide living space for the long haul, a place where those away from home (or looking for a new one) can do homework, relax together, and gather at the table after cooking their evening meal. TownePlaces Suites takes away the challenge of finding a home away from home.
