On the way home from a recent trip to Miami, we made a stop at Lion Country Safari! This is a drive-through safari home to over 900 animals!
This was a little out of the way on our drive home, but that is okay. When my wife was a kid, she loved going here and she’s been dying to take our kids to see the drive-thru safari in Florida! We saw rhinos, antelope, wildebeest, zebra, giraffes, and more! Some of the animals even got a little extra friendly with one another.
Lion Country Safari is the only drive through safari in Florida. They’ve been voted one of the top 10 drive-thru safaris in the US by US Today and we had a blast driving around the preserve and checking out the different animals and areas.
In addition to an amazing drive-thru safari, Lion Country Safari also has a theme park and water splash park, included with your admission!
Although not a traditional “theme park,” Safari World at Lion Country Safari includes 5 rides and the opportunity to feed and interact with various animals, including birds, goats, giraffe, and more! Safari World also includes water slides, paddle boats, miniature golf, a safari boat ride, and so much more!
We found a special deal online for $6 off admission, just with a simple Google search. They also have discounted tickets available that also include admission to the Miami Seaquarium, Museum of Discovery and Science, and the Miami Zoo. You can also buy annual passes for $70 per adult and $57 per child (ages 3-9). With parking fee ($7) and taxes, our family of four visited the safari for just over $100. It was less than a single park, single day ticket to a Disney park for one person!
Our drive-thru safari experience took us a little over an hour and includes a CD audio guide for you to play as you drive through the safari. The kids loved it and wanted to make a second circle around the park (you can go as many times as you want, as long as the safari is open).
The safari takes you through various “regions” with a variety of animals in each area. Savannah, Serengeti Plains, and Gir Forest are just some of the regions you’ll visit.
Lion Country Safari is open every day of the year. The drive through preserve opens at 9:30AM and closes at 4:30PM, daily. The “walk through park” (Safari World) is open daily from 10AM-5:40PM.
