After attending the inaugural Traveling Dad retreat at Walt Disney World in February, we are back in Texas and back to the real world! Both the Missus and I are working and I am attending school to hopefully receive my MBA in December. After we got back I guess what we had is the “Disney Hangover” we were still in awe of what we experienced because it was all our first time to visit WDW and we had such a great time!
While I was having tons of fun with my fellow Traveling Dads and my family, I managed to lose 5 things that were crucial to surviving a visit to Disney.
Sunglasses
I was super bummed because I lost a pair of sunglasses I had picked up from a local Austin company called Republic of Sol which sell sunglasses that embody the spirit of Austin and of course since we live Austin, I took my favorite pair of Moontowers to Disney with me AND lost them! If you have never been to Florida it is SUNNY and you need to take some sunglasses. It wasn’t too terrible because my wife had her own pair that I was going to steal and use for myself but weeks after we got back from Disney someone broke into our truck and stole her pair along with a back up set up Oakley sunglasses I had in the truck so now neither of us have sunglasses. It’s time for us to find a new pair. Needless to say for the last 2 days on our trip I was sunglassless.
MagicBand
The MagicBand is crucial to doing anything and everything at Disney. The MagicBand is the key to your room, your pass to each park, your money to buy food and gifts, it basically has everything you need to do anything while you are at Disney. Well I lost mine! Thankfully I received an awesome red Stormtrooper Magic Band and the concierge transferred everything over for me and we had a great laugh after I told them the story of how I lost my Magic Band!
Hat or Cap
Yeah, it’s true a hat can be lost while you are at Disney, whether you are riding Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, or taking the ferry to a park. If you take off your hat to ride the ride, you might leave it on the ride. If you keep it on, it might blow right off. And if you’re on Space Mountain and lose anything inside, good luck trying to find anything in the dark.
Also, if you are sitting outside on the ferry because it is packed inside your hat may also blow off! The ferry does not travel extremely fast but wind can catch your hat and unless you feel like swimming there’s no retrieving a hat in the middle of the lagoon.
iPhone
While I did not lose my iPhone, it would be really easy to do at Disney. However I did drop mine and cracked the screen… on a brand-new iPhone 6s!We had checked into The Yacht Club and dropped off all of our stuff and then we were going to begin our first day at Disney. While we were walking out to get on the ferry to head to our first park I took out my phone to snap a quick picture of the little lizard below, and I dropped my phone. It had no case on it and it slammed right down on the bricks outside of The Yacht Club!
I ended up buying a case at Star Wars Launch Bay at Hollywood Studios. I also personalized it with my name on it!
Credit Card
And finally I did indeed lose my credit card. The last thing I remember was paying for dinner at the Captains Grille inside The Yacht Club and then it was gone! I had called my credit card company to cancel my card and they ended up cancelling a different card. The next day when I attempted to pay for my delicious Dole Whip the credit card I had with me was declined! I was a little embarrassed that my credit card got declined and explained what happened to the cast member and she was super nice and gave me my Dole Whip free of charge. Huge shoutout to all the awesome cast members!
While all of these things are replaceable, the pain of losing them could put a damper on your trip! The best advice this Traveling Dad can give is check and double check if you have your items secure and with you at all times. Until next time, happy travels!
