Carnival Cruise Line is known for many things.

There’s Grooving for St. Jude outside on the Lido deck, towel animal surprises in your cabin each evening, and, on the newer ships Vista and Horizon, the only IMAX Theaters at sea and a craft brewery on board.

For little kids, what they probably love most about cruising on a Fun Ship is Carnival’s long standing partnership with Dr. Seuss!

This month, that incredibly fun partnership offers young people a special bookish challenge during their summer cruise vacation.

The Dr. Seuss Word Challenge is simple: read as many Dr. Seuss words as possible this summer and, in doing so, help raise the total of Dr. Seuss words read this summer up to the lofty goal of 100 million words!! That’s a whole lot of rhyming!

During the July 2018 campaign, Carnival is encouraging kids to have all of the fun that is funny in their free on board, at sea youth camp called Camp Ocean, and while in there to participate Dr. Seuss Word Challenge by reading hilarious Seussian books!

To help promote the challenge, Carnival recently had a cool kickoff event on board the Carnival Inspiration, at the Long Beach cruise terminal, with Los Angeles Dodgers player Kiki Hernandez.

There will be a closing event in New Orleans later this month to put a red & white striped bow on the Dr. Seuss Word Challenge.

Sporting that classic Dr. Seuss’s hat, Hernandez read “What Pet Should I Get” to more than 100 children from the Long Beach Boys & Girls Club who also enjoyed a delicious Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast featuring The Cat in the Hat and Thing 1 and Thing 2, of course, all of whom are a key part of Carnival’s exclusive Seuss at Sea program that is available on all 26 of its ships.

The kick off festivities included in a $10,000 donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Long Beach.

Launched in 2014, Seuss at Sea is a fleetwide program featuring exciting youth, family, dining and entertainment experiences inspired by the amazing world and words of Dr. Seuss.   The program includes such fun activities as the Seuss-a-palooza Parade and Story Time, as well as character interactions, Dr. Seuss toys and games and popular movies.

In order for kids to participate in the Dr. Seuss Word Challenge this month, parents will register their children at Seussville.com and log the books they’ve read. Kids can watch the Word-a-ma-rometer on the homepage to keep a close eye on the progress — which honestly sounds every bit as fun as reading all those awesome Dr. Seuss books!

No word on if reading the Seuss Breakfast Menu on board Carnival ships counts toward the Dr. Seuss Word Challenge! 🙂

Every time dad and his kiddo log a book, their names will show up on the site and add to the total number of Dr. Seuss words read! Oh yeah, when registering for the Dr. Seuss Word Challenge, parents can also enter the Word Challenge Sweepstakes to win a Carnival cruise. OH THE PLACES YOU’LL GO, indeed!!

Don’t have a Carnival cruise planned for this summer? Fear not — It’s never too late to hop on board. Check out the sailings leaving NYC, NOLA, Tampa, Miami, Long Beach, Galveston, Port Canaveral, Baltimore, and more on the Carnival website.
