Start your meal with a healthy filler if you have a big appetite.  A big bowl of salad with vegetables gives you the necessary fiber you need and will take the edge off your hunger so that you can eat a proper portion of dinner and be satisfied. 

Be careful with the dressing.  It is always better to pre mix the salad with salad dressing.  If you pour dressing directly on your salad you tend to eat the top portion and then continue to add more dressing.  Balsamic vinegar and olive oil is a good choice but there are so many light dressings on the market that actually taste great. Feel free to use any of them in moderation.  The average serving size is two tablespoons, which is actually a fair amount.  Remember, pre mix the salad and dressing.  You will use less and it will taste better.
