My mother and her husband (they are retiring this year) are going to sell their house, base themselves out of their vacation home and travel around for a year in their new RV.  They don't have a huge savings account to fall back on;  they plan to make money along the way working as seasonal help at resorts. Aren't they being totally irresponsible?Sounds as though you are concerned about the potential of them having to ultimately rely on you and yours for resources.  Actually, the latest thing seems to be for the retired sector (this includes MDs, attorneys and business professionals) getting out and working at entertainment parks, cultural centers and even retail outlets for fun and some extra cash to tide them over.  For your own sanity, I would probably support them emotionally but gently apprise them of your own financial limitations, should something dire crop up.
