Looking for things to do with kids in Scottsdale, Arizona?  While Scottsdale is known for luxurious resorts, fine dining, and upscale clothing stores, visitors  and locals alike will not find a shortage of activities to do with their families.  Multidimensional Traveling Mom Kristi Mehes often visits the Phoenix and Scottsdale area with her four year old son and firmly believes that one of the best things to do with kids in Scottsdale is to spend a day at the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park.

Spend a Day at the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park

McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is located in Scottsdale, Arizona and is known for its train that transports kids and their parents throughout the park.  However, it is much more than just a train park.  There are several reasons why it’s one of the best things to do with kids in Scottsdale and why families can spend a day at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park.  While children will enjoy taking a ride on the train, they also have the option of riding a carousel, checking out a train museum, and running around in different themed playgrounds.

THE TRAIN STATION AT THE MCCORMICK-STILLMAN RAILROAD PARK

Once you arrive at the Railroad Park, you’ll think you’re at an actual train station!  The train station at the entrance looks just like a real train station, from the ticket booths to the benches.  While inside the station, you can purchase tickets for a train ride and a ride on the carousel.  My son always enjoys going inside and looking around and sitting down on the benches.

THE CAROUSEL AT THE MCCORMICK-STILLMAN RAILROAD PARK

My son loves carousels and it’s a given that he’ll ride the carousel whenever we go.  I especially enjoy the carousel because it’s something that all ages can ride, even children younger than one year old.  While my son enjoys riding the horses on the carousel, he also likes sitting inside a wagon.  The carousel is one that the whole family can enjoy.

THE TRAIN AT THE MCCORMICK-STILLMAN RAILROAD PARK

The train travels around the park, through tunnels and over bridges.  We’ve been on children’s train rides at other places that don’t last very long, but we are impressed with the duration of the train ride at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park.  My son loves watching the scenery as we chug along the park.

THE PLAYGROUNDS AT THE MCCORMICK-STILLMAN RAILROAD PARK

There are two different types of playgrounds at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park:  a western themed playground and a train themed playground.  The western themed playground looks like a little western village and also has a slide.

The second playground is train themed, and bigger than the western themed playground.  It also has more of a variety of slides.  One of the slides is even designed to look like a train, to my son’s delight!

FOOD OPTIONS AT THE MCCORMICK-STILLMAN RAILROAD PARK

Fun activities aren’t the only thing available at the McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park.  If you don’t want to leave the park to eat, there are options available in the park itself, for a reasonable price.  During our last visit, we ordered a children’s meal for our son at one of the snack shacks – it came with mac and cheese, potato chips, chocolate milk, and a train whistle.   It was more than enough for my son.  And he loved playing with the whistle for the rest of the day.

There’s also a train museum at the park, for train enthusiasts.  The McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park is a fun place to the day with kids in Scottsdale, especially for younger children like toddlers.
