Before you hit the slopes for a fun family vacation enjoying all things cold there are some things you should consider first, like your skincare routine. What you use back at home in mild weather may not cut it for a full day of icy wind and sun on your face. Here’s what you’ll need to know to come home with the same soft skin you left for vacation with.
No – you aren’t sprawled out on the beach during this trip. Instead, you are bundled up and ready to hit the slopes with your family. The last thing that’s on your mind is sunscreen, right? Unfortunately, no matter what type of vacation you schedule, sun protection is something that always has to remain on the top of your list. It’s very important that you remember to take care of your skin during such an active day outside.
Sunscreen is a Necessity
The harsh mountain conditions can cause major damage to your face and the biggest culprit is the UV ray.
One suggestion for your winter skincare routine that I want to offer up is purchasing Bioderma Photoderm MAX Tinted Cream SPF 50+ /UVA 38. It’s a THREE in ONE if you ask me. The moisturizer will hydrate your thirsty skin while the SPF shields you from harmful rays. All the while, the tint offers light foundation coverage (which is pretty much an added bonus).
Talk about consolidating your travel bag. J
Keep Skin Smooth
The Bioderma Photoderm MAX Tinted Cream is also made for people with sensitive skin – so those with rosacea or eczema can still take advantage of the benefits.
After several hours on the slope, all you want to do is take a very hot shower, right? WRONG! Taking a hot shower will lead to flaky skin. The heat is your enemy (no matter how good it feels). Believe me, I struggle with this because nothing feels better than a REALLY hot bubble bath. But let’s stay strong ladies! Instead of all that beautiful burn, opt for a warm shower and thank me later.
To Exfoliate or Not Exfoliate?
If you are skiing for a few days, you might want to consider exfoliating once or twice. I use and love Fresh’s Soy Face Exfoliant. It’s ultra gentle and has rose hip, cucumber seeds and jojoba working their magic.
For your body, consider Neutrogena’s Body Clear Body Scrub. Not only will it get ride of dead skin cells, but it also offers a formula that combats body breakouts. All that gear is bound to make you sweat. Clear our those pours for under $5. Even though skiing is great for your body, it also does a number on your outer layer. It’s important to remember that for your winter skincare routine.
Protect Your Lips
Last but not least, you need lip protection! I’ve recently become obsessed with Carmex. I’m a bit of a coupon cutter and was able to get about 10 lip balms for pennies. The Carmex Moisture Plus line comes with built in SPF and several shades to choose from. Worth checking out and my local supermarket carries the line. Available in most stores.
