Conditioning your hair is essential for healthy looking, manageable hair. Valerie Abron-Harrell, celebrity hairstylist in Los Angeles, works with all types of hair and specializes in ethnic hair. Travelingmom caught up with her on the set of Half & Half and she offered the following suggestions for curly hair.
No matter how tight your curl is, or where you are in the world, always use conditioner so you hair cooperates and is less frizzy. Some clients mistakenly thought (before Val set them straight!) that conditioner would diminish the curl. The only thing a good conditioner will cut down on is frizz.
Two of Val’s favorite conditioners are:
Phyto Phytokarite Ultra Nourishing Conditioner: “a wood Cellulose Derivative with water-binding properties helps maintain the hair’s moisture balance. Hydrolyzed Keratin coats the hair and makes it easier to detangle, while Tocopherol (Vitamin E), a known antioxidant, helps protect hair from external stress factors. Hair is replenished from within, regaining its original softness, suppleness, and shine.”.
Biolage Conditioning Balm: Leave it on for 5 minutes but don?t overdo it. Val says that leaving conditioner on all day can over-soften the hair, which can lead to the ultimate curly hair enemy – frizzzzzz.
