The Centurion Lounge – A Great Airport Hideaway

People often ask why I choose to hold an American Express Platinum Card. Well, for my family it is so worth the expense. The one benefit we really love and use is The Centurion Lounge. It happens to be one reason I travel through Dallas over Chicago when I can.

Currently, Centurion Lounges are open at LaGuardia, Dallas, Las Vegas, and San Francisco airports, but I hear more are on the way. In fact, Miami and Seattle are to be added this year.

Here are some of the reasons why I love The Centurion Lounge:

The Food

Each lounge has a local chef, either as chef/owner or executive chef, and use locally inspired flavors and ingredients. I have been nothing but impressed with the food and have even booked layovers to enjoy a meal there or meet up with friends. The menus are seasonal and therefore change, which is awesome, except that one time I really wanted the butternut squash soup and of course, it was out of season.

The Wine and Drinks

Speaking of meeting up with friends – let’s talk about the fact that Centurion has an award-winning wine expert and mixologist on staff. Yes, I have worked it out with my friends, so that when we find we are traveling on the same days, we hook up at a lounge. The wines are perfectly selected and the drinks are all mixed with top shelf liquors. One of my personal favorites is arriving from Omaha on that 6 a.m. flight to enjoy a yummy breakfast with a mimosa or bellini made with fresh squeezed nectars and juices.

The Space

One of the best features of the Centurion Lounges is their spaces. The lounges have work spaces, areas for groups to gather, quiet nooks, and spots to watch that game, if that’s your preference. Each lounge has a unique feel and decor, which is very nice! The only thing I have to mention is that there is a need for parents traveling with kids to respect these spaces. You have to know your kids and if they are disturbing others, please either deal with the situation or use the family space. Respect that people are trying to work or read in quiet.

An added bonus in Dallas is the Exhale Spa, which offers free 15 minute spa services. I have had three different therapists for massages and each one was not only wonderful, but since I was the only person there, gave me a double session. Shhhh, don’t tell, but thank you!

Concierge Services

Although the fabulous staff won’t admit it, they are very talented and helpful.  They are able to function both as American Express Concierge Services and Card Member Services.  Once, while traveling, my husband lost his card and one was sent directly to the lounge for him to pick up.  We have even booked restaurants and a car service there for our destinations.

So, in drinks and food at the Centurion Lounges alone, my American Express Platinum Card has paid for itself…and it even makes my husband happy to travel.

Of note:  Entry is complimentary for Platinum Card holders, along with 2 guests or immediate family.  All other American Express card holders may purchase a one-day pass for $50.
