I don’t know about you, but I’ve tried about two dozen deodorants over the years and have yet to find on that consistently delivers. When I heard that Certain Dri Anti-Perspirant, an over-the-counter antiperspirant for treating excessive perspiration, comes backed by dermatologists and offers scores of testimonials by heavy sweaters, I figured it was worth a shot.
And with a long trip (with no in-flight showers, mind you!) looming in my future, now was as good a time as any to head off an undesirable stench problem before it begins. Was I skeptical about its 72-hour effectiveness claim? You bet. Three whole days? Without an extra swipe? Not likely. But truth be told, within a week or so, perspiration became a non-issue in my daily life. I didn’t sweat and I didn’t smell. So far out of my mind were wetness and odor that I even forgot to reapply the product when due. Before you run out and stock up on a caseload of this stuff, there’s a caveat that needs to be noted: Not only is this an anti-sweat “system” that contains two separate products and requires double application (one must be applied at night, the other as a refresher), but it causes a major case of the itchies when applied. Each time I rolled it on, I was up against ten minutes of a crazed desire to scratch my pits. (Don’t ask what my husband thought of my ape-mocking routine.) The end result? Some definite drawbacks, but if you have a high tolerance for upkeep, the result may be worth the hassle. ($5.99 at www.drugstore.com)
