My parents recently headed off for a long weekend in St. Louis with more luggage than I take on a weeklong family trip.”But your clothes are smaller than ours,” my overweight parents remind me. It’s true that 75% of my family members are under five feet tall, but still, I’m committed to packing light.

My mom did make one concession to lightening her load, though. She brought the Kindle2 wireless reader that my we gave her last week for her 70th birthday. Instead of packing a few hefty hardcover books, we simply downloaded their content onto the device. As for me, if my family is headed out for more than a four-day trip, I just plan on doing laundry midway through rather than packing extra clothes. Do you do this or does the idea of doing laundry on a vacation sound nuts?

If we stay in a condo, doing laundry is an easy enough task. It can be logistically challenging to manage a couple of loads in a hotel, especially if you are paranoid like me and unwilling to leave you duds unattended as they rinse and spin. Honestly, after a few days of 24/7 with my favorite people in the world, I’m happy to curl up with a good book and manage the laundry while DH takes the kids swimming or mini-golfing without me.

One problem we’ve encountered though, is detergent. Sometimes it’s not offered for sale and when it is, it’s never just the right amount nor is it my preferred brand. Which is why when I had the chance to try Purex’s new 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets, I immediately imagined myself on a tropical vacation with my family, a load of laundry and these sheets.

Purex set me a sample 20-pack to try out in my decidedly untropical laundry room. The sheets are preloaded with detergent, fabric softener and an anti-static agent. You toss the sheet in with your wash and it follows the load of wet clothes into the dryer. If my clothes are any indication it will leave yours soft, unstatic-y and nicely scented.

You could easily tuck a few sheets into a plastic bag and stash it in your suitcase. (Leave the bag unsealed if you want you suitcase to have a fresh scent.) These sheets make it easier than ever to do laundry on the road.Purex agreed to  offer one TravelingMom reader a chance to win a starter pack of the 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets. I was going to ask them to toss in a free vacation, too, but I didn’t think they’d go for it.
