military dadHave your children ever gone to over night summer camp?  Mine went last year for the first time.  They went to an Operation Purple summer camp at Angelus Oaks specifically for military children who have experience deployment recently.

Last year there were tons to choose from, but with military cuts there are only seventeen camps this year.  If there is a camp near you and your spouse has been deployed recently or is about to be deployed your child will most likely qualify for camp.  These camps are completely free and located throughout the nation. You can apply for camp beginning in late March each year. You can only apply your child to one camp.

At camp your child will get to experience all the activities you would expect at a traditional summer camp.  You can research the camps before applying, but most include swimming, arts and crafts, drama, and campfires.

These camps have special times when they address the entire group and talk about what it’s like to be a military kid. Your child will see that they are not the only ones dealing with these issues. The camp teaches them some coping skills. My kids loved going to Operation Purple and as their mom I thought it was incredibly beneficial.
