Eggnog, pound cake and those yummy sugar Christmas cookies easily pack the holiday on the pounds – especially when you’re traveling and tend to relax healthy eating habits. Holiday fun runs are an easy way to stay active, burn off some of those extra calories and explore more of the city you’re visiting.
These holiday themed road races are normally 5K’s (3 miles) and are fun for families with kids of all ages. Many welcome strollers and encourage participants to dress up. Candy cane stripped compression socks, Santa hats and jingle bells are perfect picks! Holiday funs runs average between $20-30 for adults and $10 for kids; and often benefit local charities or schools. They’re happening nationwide – in big cities and small towns. Here are five near my neck of the woods, the Atlanta Area:
Reindeer Run & Santa Stroll, 5K & 1K, 12/3, Macon
Jingle Jog 5K, Jingle Jog Junior 1K, and Elf Run (ages 7 and under), 12/10/11, Atlanta
Rockin’ With Santa Half Marathon, 10K & 5K, 12/18/11, Snellville
Sleighbells on the Square, 5K, 1K, Kids Run, 12/10/11, Marietta
Atlanta Track Club’s PT Solutions Resolution Run 5K and 10K, 1/1/12, Kennesaw
