Guests and hotel staff alike have heard footsteps in the restaurant that reverberate throughout the entire hotel. Glasses have been heard clinking behind the bar and music playing in the music room when it’s completely empty. A handful of people have even reported seeing a female figure standing on the upstairs landing.
If the ghosts are too much for kids, they can take refuge in the hotel wifi access for game-playing or head to the outdoor pool, where no ghosts have been reported.
In Anniston, there’s the DeSoto Caverns Family Fun Park which offers a laser light, sound and water show. Nature lovers can head to Pinhoti Hiking Trail for the chance to see wild turkeys.

The resident ghost at the historic Hilton Netherland Plaza is known as the Lady in Green. The hotel’s spirit is said to be the wife of a hotel laborer who tragically died during the hotel’s construction in 1930, although his body was never discovered. Many construction workers who labored on the hotel’s renovation in 1983 reported seeing the ghost of his wife looking for her husband’s body on the mezzanine level and the Hall of Mirrors.
Despite its venerable appearance, the Hilton Netherland Plaza welcomes kids with children’s menus in all of the restaurants, cribs and high chairs available upon request and that kid must-have: a swimming pool.

The most outlandish ghost is a male who regularly taps people on the shoulder and is likely to throw objects across the room if ignored. Thanks to this ghost in particular, the Victorian-style historical landmark hotel has appeared on Ghost Hunters and has also featured in the New York Daily News.

The building previously served as a medical facility and the highest concentration of sightings is on the floors which were used as a psychiatric facility. Some of the strangest unusual activity includes being touched by unseen hands, sightings of an elderly woman wandering in a hospital gown and wine bottles sliding off tables.
