capecodlatefall Here in Massachusetts, we are blessed with some beautiful places to vacation, especially in the summer.  However, these places, including Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket, can be incredibly expensive for families.  I always have a difficult time justifying the expense for a week vacation that is so depending upon good weather.  But one thing that many families don’t realize is that by simply delaying that vacation to late summer/early fall – you can still enjoy the area with little crowds and much less expense.

A few weeks ago, on the last weekend of the summer, we enjoyed a quick family vacation to Falmouth, on Cape Cod.  Our hotel, the Sea Crest Beach Hotel, was located directly on the beach, and offered amazing views of the ocean.  While the weather wasn’t as hot as the middle of summer, it was actually still very nice.  We experienced no traffic on the way down to the Cape, and found the beach to be relatively uncrowded.  We were able to spend the entire weekend on the beach, and my kids were even able to go in the water.

Many popular summer vacation hotspots offer great deals during the fall, and it’s a great way to get away for a more reasonable price.  I am definitely going to be making a trip to Cape Cod every September – with the low prices, warm weather, and low crowds, it’s a great deal!

Disclosure:  I received a complimentary two-night stay at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel.
