Movies, a pop culture museum, a huggable giant polar bear, and all the soda you can drink – yes, my kids dubbed me the “coolest mom ever” after bringing them to the World of Coca-Cola when we did a staycation at the Omni Hotel CNN Center this past fall. Even for those like me who rarely sip soda this Atlanta landmark is a must-do, and fun for the entire family. The two-level building is home to several exhibits including the Happiness Factory Theater, Bottle Works, Milestones of Refreshments, Taste It!, a 4-D theater, and now the vault containing the company’s coveted Secret Formula.
Conveniently located in the heart of downtown Atlanta, the World of Coca-Cola is in walking distance from several other notable Atlanta attractions – the CNN Center, Centennial Olympic Park and the Georgia Aquarium. General admission tickets range from $12-$16 per person; a nominal fee for all the entertainment packed inside.
My family highlights include both movies – the 4-D one was especially fun; sitting on the American Idol couch in the Pop Culture Gallery; walking through the company’s history in Milestones of Refreshments; hugging the Coca-Cola Polar Bear; and of course tasting more than 60 different beverages from around the world in Taste it!
The flow of the museum is set up well, leading you from one exhibit to another, but also allows you to freestyle and go up and downstairs as you please. Allow yourself plenty of time, especially if you have little ones with you, and plan on doing Taste It! last – the kids load up on samples and miraculously gain lots of energy! Ahem. Also, be prepared for the onslaught of “Mommy can I have this?” as you exit through the Coca-Cola Store that has a wide array of fun, fashionable merchandise inviting you to indulge.
