MomstaycationTravel with kids can come in many forms, and for a tired mom, the kids doing that travel with dad can be the best vacation. Or rather, a form of staycation. For the first time in seven years, I know what it’s like to be single and childless again.

My joy lasted for a whole week.  On the good advice of a neighbor mom, I sent my husband and three kids off on a train to his mother’s hometown in Chongqing, China. That’s 24 hours by train each way. It’s hard for we worrying moms to be so far. But fortunately for my peace of mind, there was only one occasion the two-year-old was crying on the phone to me, and that was more to do with the aunt’s barking husky.

In hindsight I could have used my time more wisely. I spent a few days when I wasn’t working cleaning up and clearing out. What I should have done was plop myself on the couch with a book or movie and a nice cocktail, and well, stayed off my feet.

What would you do – or what have you done?
