Art and festival lovers will convene this week in Ann Arbor for the Ann Arbor Art Fair. The event encompasses four independently juried fairs: Ann Arbor’s South University Art Fair; Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, the Original; Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair; and the State Street Area Art Fair.
The fairs begin Wednesday, July 20 and run through Saturday, July 23. Each year, more than a half million people converge on the streets of downtown Ann Arbor to enjoy the works of over 1,000 artists. Each artist has been selected by an independent jury comprising professional artists, professors, and gallery owners.
The Art Fair feature s a variety of art media, including 2D and 3D mixed media, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry and works in metal, stone, and wood.
But there’s more than just great art to enjoy: live performances both on stage and informally presented; culinary treats and specials; children’s activities; and shop and sidewalk sales abound throughout the downtown area.
If You Go to the Art Fairs:
Be sure to bring plenty of bottled water, as the temperatures are predicted to be above 90 degrees each day. In addition, consider parking in one of the park-and-ride parking lots in town to avoid parking hassles. Parking is free, and the shuttle to and from the art fairs is $3 roundtrip.
