Nothing says Christmas quite like a leg lamp. If you got that reference, then you’re just as much a fan of the classic 1983 holiday movie “A Christmas Story” as I am. The movie follows the trials of young Ralphie as he tries to convince the adults in his life that he should get a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. (For the three of you who have never seen the movie, the leg lamp is the “major award” won by the “Old Man,” who promptly displays it in the front window, much to Ralphie’s mom’s dismay. I triple dog dare you to rent the movie and watch it with the kids this holiday season.)
The movie classic has been made into a musical coming soon to a stage near you (if you’re lucky enough to live near Chicago, Detroit, Raleigh, Tampa or Hershey, Pennsylvania). “A Christmas Story, The Musical!” will launch a five-city National Tour in early November. The 2011 holiday season includes performances in Hershey, PA (Hershey Theatre, Nov. 8 – 13); Detroit, MI (Fisher Theatre, Nov. 15 – 27); Raleigh, NC (Memorial Auditorium, Nov. 29 – Dec. 4); Tampa (Straz Center, Dec. 6 – 11); and Chicago (Chicago Theatre, Dec. 14 – 30).
