Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom Park continues to amaze and delight guests by adding new experiences and entertainment options to their already delectable menu of attractions. Additions to the Kingdom this year include a teenage princess, a dynamic musical showcase, an interactive themed restaurant, and more. Make plans to join in the fun this summer at “The Most Magical Place on Earth.”

A visit to Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park is always an action-packed adventure, even for the most seasoned of guests. This year, Disney adds even more magic the mix. Long-time fans of Magic Kingdom and new visitors alike will enjoy all of the entertainment options on offer. From free ice cream and line-free rides at Disney After Hours to a brand new show on the Cinderella Castle stage, here are a few highlights of the new Magic Kingdom programming.

What's New in Magic KingdomDisney After Hours

Explore the Park in the dark, with free treats and little to no wait times for popular attractions! Disney After Hours offers guests three extra hours of fun after the sun goes down, for guests willing to pay for the experience.

A limited number of tickets are being sold for $149 per person, plus tax, to enjoy the park at the following times:

  • Sunday, May 8, 2016 from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.
  • Thursday, May 12, 2016 from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.
  • Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Enjoy Character Greetings and more than 25 attractions, without having to wait! Available attractions include Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Disney Princess Greetings at Princess Fairytale Hall, Peter Pan’s Flight, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and Space Mountain. No need for FastPass+ reservations; you can ride your favorites again and again.

As an added bonus, ice cream and select bottled beverages will be available for free at carts stationed throughout the park!

Check in as early as 7 p.m. and stay until 2 a.m. to enjoy Magic Kingdom Park in a whole new way. Limited tickets are available, so you should purchase them in advance online or by phone at (407) 827-7185.

Also worth noting, Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members can purchase Disney After Hours tickets for half price, $75. Call (407) 560-7277 or visit any Walt Disney World Resort ticket window to purchase these discounted tickets.

A New Princess

Walt Disney World Resort guests will soon be introduced to Princess Elena, the teenage princess star of “Elena of Avalor,” a new animated series coming to the Disney Channel this summer. Princess Elena, Disney’s first Latina princess, will make her debut at Magic Kingdom in August, and at Disneyland in the fall.

Here is the show description, from Disney: “Kids and families worldwide will be enchanted by the story of Princess Elena, a bold, caring, funny and clever 16-year-old who is ascendant to the throne in the fairytale kingdom of Avalor.  The series follows the story of Elena, who saves her kingdom from an evil sorceress and must now learn to rule with the support of her appointed Grand Council and some magical friends by her side. Elena’s adventures will lead her to understand that her new role requires thoughtfulness, resilience and compassion, the traits of all truly great leaders, while highlighting the importance of family and family traditions.”

A New Restaurant

If you love Magic Kingdom’s Jungle Cruise, don’t miss the chance to dine with its humorous crew at the new Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. Skipper Canteen. Located just steps from the popular Cruise attraction in Adventureland, the new full-service restaurant serves jungle delicacies inspired by Asian, South American and African cuisine.

The restaurant’s decor revolves around the story of the granddaughter of Jungle Navigation Co. Ltd. founder Dr. Albert Falls, whom you may remember from Jungle Cruise lore as the waterfall’s namesake. Diners can enjoy their meals in one of three themed dining rooms: The Mess Hall, The Jungle Room, and The S.E.A. Room (a secret meeting room used by the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, or S.E.A.).

Jungle Skipper Canteen accepts the Disney Dining Plan and reservations for lunch and dinner can be made in advance.

Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire Stage Show

Starting in June, Magic Kingdom guests can enjoy a new royal musical celebration on the Cinderella Castle stage. “Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire” will feature Mickey Mouse and pals, along with a few special guests, including Tiana of Princess and the Frog, Rapunzel of Tangled, and Elsa and Anna of Frozen. This new show will be presented several times a day, offering Disney fans an exuberant presentation of dance, song, special effects, and a fireworks finale.

The show description from Disney reads: “From the land of the bewitching bayous, Goofy has invited Princess Tiana, Naveen and Louis to add a little spice of New Orleans jazz to the party. Donald Duck brings some new friends he met in the land of the enchanted woods, where Daisy Duck introduces us to her special guests, Rapunzel and Flynn. Finally, Mickey Mouse shares a surprise with Minnie Mouse, as he has traveled to the land of the mystic mountains to invite Olaf, Princess Anna, and Queen Elsa, who swirls a blast of her icy magic.”

Want to feel like Cinderella on your wedding day? You can now get hitched in Magic Kingdom’s East Plaza Garden, with Cinderella Castle as the backdrop. The bride may opt to make her grand entrance via glass coach or horse-drawn carriage, and trumpeters will announce her arrival to up to one hundred wedding guests.
