Disney World is known as the happiest place on earth. Let’s be realistic, though. It can be very expensive to vacation there. If you know some of these free things to do at Disney you can brag to your friends and save some money.

Please note that if you are visiting a Disney resort to take advantage of these freebies, you must go through the parking lot guard station. You will be asked if you are checking in. There’s no need to check in, but you do need to either eat a restaurant or shop at one of the stores. Do not take advantage of this.

Downtown Disney

There’s no admission cost or parking fee. Walk around, look through the shops, take photos of the Characters in Flight Hot Air Balloon and Lego sculptures. The Lego store contains a playground and a place to play with Legos. Get a free sample at the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop. Cool off in the fountains. You’ll see lots of kids and parents playing in them. Take advantage of the live entertainment on the stage and at some of the restaurants such as Bongos and Raglan Road.

The Boardwalk

Located at the Boardwalk Inn Resort, find carnival type activities for you and your family. Stop and watch the street performers that truly entertain. Use the walkway and see Crescent Lake and other resorts such as the Yacht Club and if you walk far enough the Dolphin and Swan. If you are looking for inexpensive food, try the food kiosks, the bakery, pizza place and candy shop. At night, you are close enough to see Illuminations at EPCOT.

The Monorail

In order to ride on the Monorail you will need to visit a resort. Choose the Contemporary, Polynesian or the Grand Floridian. This is a unique type of transportation which most of us don’t have in our home towns. Take the whole route around the resorts and Magic Kingdom. Learn the famous announcement for fun or time your ride to see the Wishes Fireworks.

Animal Kingdom Lodge

The animals roam free at this resort. Outside by the pool is a viewing area of the savannah animals. You may see zebras, giraffes, and all types of birds. Animal guides are available to tell you about each of the animals.

Electrical Water Pageant

Held at night, you can view this parade from a number of resorts including Wilderness Lodge, the Contemporary and the Grand Floridian. Lighted boats of sea creatures sail through the water accompanied by music.

The Resorts

Each resort has its own unique ambience. It continues throughout the resort with décor, and small touches that make you feel like you’ve been transported to another time. Each hotel has shops and restaurants. Walk through the lobby, take photos and take a seat. Some resorts have live entertainment such as a piano player or a magician. There are views of the fireworks from the different parks.

Holiday Freebies

  • Each resort is decorated from the outside to the lobby and throughout the open areas. Again, each hotel has a different theme of holiday décor.
  • See Santa at Downtown Disney. There’s no need to pay for photos, just take your own.
