Last month I had the opportunity to attend a retreat at the Walt Disney World Resort with the fabulous TravelingMoms! Disney hosted us in one of my favorite Resorts onsite, the Disney Yacht Club Resort.
The Yacht Club is one of my favorites any time of year. It is right next door to one of my other favorite resorts, Disney’s Beach Club Resort. Together, they share many amazing amenities, including a staff and management team.
The Yacht Club tends to be a little more on the quiet side, possibly due to its stately and elegant “shipshape” interiors, as compared to the Beach Club Resort, which evokes a more casual, seaside family vacation atmosphere with its pastels and lighter wood designs. This makes the Yacht Club the perfect choice for a business conference or retreat, or for adults desiring a more “peaceful” resort escape in the middle of a family theme park.
Wonderful dining establishments abound on both properties, some of which my family visits every time we travel to Walt Disney World, whether we are staying at one of these Resorts or not! Our favorites include casual dining at Beaches and Cream Soda Shop next to the pool, or the Captain’s Grille right off the lobby of the Yacht Club; quick service at Hurricane Hanna’s Grill outside at the pool; the very entertaining and delicious Character Dining breakfast at Cape May Café; and of course, the mouth-watering steaks at the Yachtsman Steakhouse.
Another amenity the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts share in common is the awe-inspiring pool, called “Stormalong Bay,” a 750,000-gallon water world located between the two Resorts along the sandy beachfront of Crescent Lake. It features a sandy bottom, lazy river, and a ship-wreck themed water slide. This place is heaven on a hot day when you want to escape from the Park crowds!
Since this was a “business retreat,” we were treated to first-class service in Disney’s 73,000 square feet Yacht and Beach Club Convention Center. Located right off the Yacht Club lobby via covered walkway, and also accessible from the Beach Club, it was the perfect place to gather each day for our meetings and special events. It never really feels like work when you’re working at Walt Disney World, does it?!
Since this TravelingMom Retreat took place right in the middle of spring in Central Florida, our timing was perfect to attend the EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival, my favorite event of the year at Walt Disney World! And, of course, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is the perfect location to stay if you come for this event since it is within walking distance to EPCOT’s International Gateway, or just a short ride away on one of the lovely “Friendship Boats.”
Such close proximity to the EPCOT entrance gave me plenty of opportunities to visit EPCOT for the scenery, festivities, and special booths in between retreat engagements. I was able to enjoy special concerts, tour Tinkerbell’s Garden, taste food from all over World Showcase, learn helpful gardening techniques from special workshops and exhibits, and just take time to enjoy a leisurely stroll around the Park, snapping pictures of the amazing topiaries, arrangements, and landscaping. It was practically perfect in every way, to borrow a phrase from Mary Poppins!
Whether you are planning a business retreat, conference, or your next family vacation, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort has something for everyone!
