The Character Encounter in Discovery Island is well suited for children in the under 12 age group; however, having your photo taken with these fun Disney characters will be exciting for both kids and adults. The character greeting times are set for certain days of the week and can be found at different locations throughout Discovery Island. One of my favorite meet and greet character encounters is with the Wilderness Explorer Friends which is located near the entrance to It’s Tough to be a Bug! attraction.
What Characters Can Be Found in Discovery Island and Where to Find Them
Discovery Island is a great area of the park to spend time with young children who will be super excited to meet some of the Disney characters. As mentioned above, for me, I enjoyed meeting Dug & Russell at their Wilderness Explorers Club House, which is located near the entrance to It’s Tough to be a Bug! attraction.
Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse are sure to get your little ones smiling and what’s really great about the meet and greet with Mickey and Minnie is that you have the option of using FP+. You will find these Disney characters in the Adventurers Outpost in Discovery Island.
Another character you will find in Discovery Island is the gentle and kind Pocahontas. As mentioned above, there are set days and times of the week to meet each of the Disney characters and have your photo taken with them. The location you will find Pocahontas is on the Discovery Island Trail.
Another Disney favorite, the one and only Daisy Duck, has been spotted in Discovery Island. Her scheduled character greeting times are intermittently park opening – 1:30pm & 1:40pm – 4:20pm. As you can see, Daisy is one of my favorites!

- Steamboat Willie, a 1928 animated black-and-white short film directed by Walt Disney. This is a wonderful film for the entire family to view before meeting Mickey and Minnie Mouse.
- Pocahontas, a 1995 Disney classic. Children of all ages will enjoy watching Pocahontas as she explores nature and the land. A terrific movie to watch with your kids before meeting the Indian princess.
- Mickey’s Adventures in Wonderland, a 2009 full-length movie. Donald loses his present to Daisy for her birthday, so Mickey and gang help to retrieve it. A great movie for the whole family to see before meeting Daisy Duck.
