The Star Wars-based Season of the Force makes its debut in the midst of Disneyland Resort’s Diamond Celebration and annual Holidays at Disneyland Resort, making the popular family attraction even more magical. Season of the Force opens Nov. 16; Disney officials haven’t release an end date to the seasonal event. Holidays at Disneyland is already underway and continues through Jan. 6, 2016. Diamond Celebration is extended through summer 2016.
With three big seasonal events underway, the Disneyland Resort has a lot to celebrate. The park’s 60th anniversary continues with parades and shows while Holidays at Disneyland Resort adds even more sparkle and festivities. But the main buzz hovers over Season of the Force, timed to make its debut just ahead of the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, scheduled to premier Dec. 18, 2015.
Season of the Force has taken over Tomorrowland, transforming popular rides and venues into Star Wars-themed attractions. All this is in anticipation of Disneyland’s future Star Wars-themed land, which will immerse guests in the Star Wars universe. It is the biggest addition to the Disneyland Resort since 1983.
While groundbreaking will take place in early 2016 (temporarily closing down major attractions along Rivers of America), the land will not be competed for a few years. In the meantime, Season of the Force is an exciting event with much for families to see and do. Here are some of the event’s highlights.
Star Wars: Path of the Jedi
The first thing to see (especially if you’re not very familiar with the Star Wars stories) is Star Wars: Path of the Jedi in the Tomorrowland Theater. The 10-minute video provides a good overview of the Star Wars saga by combining iconic scenes featuring Luke Skywalker from the Star Wars films along with moments from the new movie.
Star Wars Launch Bay
Located on the lower level of the Tomorrowland Expo Center, this multi-sensory space (formerly the Innovations exhibition hall) features all things Star Wars. Outside the building, watch for First Order storm troopers patrolling the area on a mission to find members of the Resistance. Which side are you on?
Inside, you can explore galleries full of Star Wars memorabilia and authentic replicas of large-scale Star Wars artifacts, and play the latest Star Wars video games. Best of all, journey to the dark side to meet Darth Vader or the light side to come face-to-face with Chewbacca in immersive Rebel and Star Destroyer spaces. Have your camera ready!
The classic Space Mountain roller coaster has been redesigned temporarily as Hyperspace Mountain, featuring a new soundtrack as you zoom through an action-packed battle between Rebel X wings and Imperial TIE fighters. Be sure to get your FastPass early in the day for this popular attraction.
Star Tours – The Adventure Continues
The updated adventure features new characters and includes scenes from the film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple
Opening Dec. 8, the interactive show spotlights Darth Vader and the Seventh Sister Inquisitor, a new villain from the popular Disney XD series Star Wars Rebels. The story revolves around the secret site of an ancient Jedi temple where you can discover if you have what it takes to be a true Jedi.
Star Wars-Inspired Menus
Even the restaurants in Tomorrowland Terrace have been invaded by The Force. You can choose from dark and light side menus. For example, dark side items include the popular First Order specialty burger, made of a patty of angus beef and chorizo topped with fried cherry peppers and spicy lime aioli served on a dark bun. The tasty burger has a kick to it! More options include a chicken curry specialty pizza and Darth tamale. Don’t pass on the Darth by chocolate dessert. Prefer the light side? Try the Jedi Order chicken sandwich.
