7 Reasons to Stay at Loews Coronado Bay Resort
During a recent trip to San Diego, my family and I stayed at Loews Coronado Bay Resort. As soon as we arrived at the resort, we realized we were in for a treat. From its close proximity to the beach and other attractions in San Diego to the amenities available on property, here are 7 reasons to stay at Loews Coronado Bay Resort. Once you’ve stayed there, you’ll never want to stay anywhere else.
Reason #1: The Location
One of the main reasons to stay at Loews Coronado Bay Resort is the location. It’s located in Coronado, California, which is minutes away from Downtown San Diego. It’s also one of our places to visit whenever we travel to San Diego and its outlying areas. However, traffic can get congested in certain areas of Coronado Island.

Guests of Loews Coronado Bay Resort can avoid the congestion. The resort is tucked away from all the hustle and bustle, overlooking the bay. The resort is also located in close proximity to many of the different attractions in San Diego, making it easy for families. And then there’s the beach – the best reason of all. There are plenty of options available, whether you want to explore nearby San Diego or stay at the resort.
Reason #2: Accommodations
The rooms are spacious and the beds are very comfortable. We had a room with a balcony, and it’s well worth the splurge. There’s nothing like sitting outside on the balcony, and enjoying the view. Especially in San Diego! There is also a Keurig Coffee Maker in the room, as well as a mini fridge. Wifi is also included in the hotel stay, which is important when we travel with all of our electronic devices. We all have tablets, and it’s nice that we can all unwind at the end of the day by watching whatever we want. The buildings are connected by hallways, and from there, guests take elevators to the underground parking garage.
As someone who travels often, one of my pet peeves is a hotel that has a confusing layout. Loews Coronado Bay Resort does not have a confusing layout at all, though, making it extremely family friendly.
Reason #3: The Pools
My 4 year old son is at a stage in life where he loves two things – the beach and the pool. Loews Coronado Bay Resort has both covered! While the beach is the biggest draw, the resort also has three different pools that are heated. The pools are centrally located at the resort, in close proximity to the lobby and other common areas. One of the pools is for adults only. The other two pools are very kid friendly. When we checked into the pool area, we were provided with towels – and my son was also given a beach ball to play with.
There’s also fun to be had outside the pool, though. For example, there are several games available near the pool. Some of the games include life size versions of chess and Connect Four. My son especially enjoyed playing Connect Four.
Reason #4: The Beach
Silver Strand Beach is also one of the main reasons to stay at Loews Coronado Bay Resort. Driving to the beach can be stressful because it can be very difficult to find parking. No worries, though, at Loews Coronado Bay Resort. The beach is located within walking distance from the resort, although Loews provides transportation to and from the beach. The beach also isn’t crowded. Also, there’s not an additional charge for the transportation – it’s included in the daily resort fee. My son can spend hours on the beach, collecting sea shells and building a sandcastle. And that’s exactly what he did.
Transportation isn’t the only thing that’s included. Guests of the resort can borrow beach toys, towels, lounge chairs, and umbrellas at the beach. This is especially great for families traveling with younger children. The fact that we don’t have to lug all of our beach gear with us is a huge benefit.
TravelingMom Tip: One of our favorite things to do when taking a vacation is to hire a photographer for family photos. This is a special gift and souvenir that we cherish. We use Flytographer to book a local photographer located in the area that we're traveling to. Use this link and you will get $25 off your photo session.
Reason #5: Activities
It can be difficult to find activities for all family members, especially younger children. However, there are many activities available for families at Loews Coronado Bay Resort, including water activities at the marina and the beach. Kids can participate in catch and release fishing, and for those who enjoy nature, there is a nature walk at Silver Strand Beach. There’s also a Junior Rangers Program available at the beach for children. Water sports include sailboats, kayaks and paddle boats but water sports aren’t the only activities that are available. Guests can also rent bicycles. There is so much to do, that we ran out of time to enjoy it all.
Reason #6: Transportation
One of the other reasons to stay at Loews Coronado Bay Resort? Transportation to the beach and a nearby shopping village are included in the daily resort fee. As I mentioned in Reason #4 above, the resort provides guests with transportation to and from Silver Strand Beach. The wait time wasn’t very long, both departing to the beach and arriving back at the resort. The resort also provides guests with transportation to Downtown Coronado Village for shopping.
Reason #7: Dining
There are several dining options at Loews Coronado Bay Resort for those who don’t want to leave the resort. We ate poolside at La Cantina a few times during our stay. La Cantina’s menu includes popular choices like burgers, tacos, and nachos. We also like that there is a kids menu available, with options like PB&J and chicken tenders. There is also a cafe, Silver Strand Exchange, near the lobby that sells coffee and frappuccinos, pastries, sandwiches, and gelato. I’m not ashamed to admit that we stopped for gelato every day of our stay! We also utilized room service a few times. There’s also a main restaurant on-site, called Crown Landing, although we never had the opportunity to try out Crown Landing.
