Is your child too big for a stroller, but too young to keep up with the walking on vacation? Whether you’re sightseeing in a big city, or headed on a beach or camping trip, making sure young kids can keep up with the rest of the gang, can be a challenge. One clever solution? A packable scooter that makes sightseeing and long walks fun and easy.
We brought a MicroKickboard scooter along for my 7 year-old to enjoy while visiting Grandma and Grandpa at their golf course community in Florida. Here are a few of the benefits:
1. Scooters allow kids to keep up.
It’s about a mile from the grandparents’ house to the neighborhood’s tennis courts and playground. A mile can be a pleasant walk for an adult; for a kid, it can feel like the long march. But a mile on a scooter feels like a breeze, even for little kids.
2. Scooters are fun!
Travel seems like more fun when you have a scooter. It’s a fun way to get around, whether sightseeing in the big city, staying at a sprawling resort, on a cruise where you’ll be spending days exploring different ports of call, or visiting relatives.
3. It gives kids something to do with their downtime.
A scooter can provide kids with a way to burn off some energy when they’re tired of hanging around the adults. A three hour dinner with the relatives? While you might enjoy catching up with family all evening, your kid might be in need of more action. A scooter gives them a little freedom to do that, even if it’s only in the driveway!
5. It’s not heavy.
Easily portable, it folds up in a second, making it easy to bring along on public transportation, or carry inside a restaurant or other attraction. Also you can fold it up and wheel it behind you, instead of having to carry it.
Can you imagine traveling with a scooter on your next vacation? What are some of the ways you help younger kids keep up on family vacation?
