When it comes to family travel, Rural TravelingMom’s family is all in. Literally at times. As in ALL of her family’s belongings find their way INTO her packing piles. If anyone has ever loathed to pack for even a two-day getaway, it is her. But then she learned to pack like a pro with Eagle Creek Pack-It Specter Cubes.  If you’ve ever tried to maximize space in your luggage and find you fumble a bit, follow this advice, invest in some packing cubes, and pack on!

Pack Like a Pro Using Eagle Creek Pack-It Specter Cubes

It’s no wonder there are so many sites about HOW to travel with kids – it’s HARD! It even makes me understand after five years of doing this regularly why some people just throw in the towel and become armchair travelers for the decade or two they spend rearing children. I begin packing days before even a short trip. One night my husband came to me with a weary look on his face and said: “It shouldn’t take three days to pack for a two-day trip!” I knew there had to be a better way. And there is with Eagle Creek.

Eagle Creek Pack-It Specter cubes revolutionized my family packing. We tried the Eagle Creek Pack-It Specter cubes in White/Strobe. The result? Perfect packing inside our Eagle Creek Tarmac 30 luggage and absolute ease during the packing and planning phase of our most recent family trip.

Eagle Creek = Portion Control

Just as you wouldn’t eat everything on the buffet (or maybe you need some sized cubes there too if you’re like me!?), you should also try to avoid piling everything you own into your luggage. Know what to purge from the pile and plan what will fit perfectly using Pack-It Specter cubes!

These little cubes are convenient because they are lightweight. Even the larger size is just around an ounce. And they control the amount you can pack. We assign a cube to each kid for their undies, base layers, and really anything they want. As long as they have the essentials for the length of our stay, they can fill the rest of the remaining space with lovies and trinkets.

The quarter cubes are small. But they are FANTASTIC for kid-sized stuff. Giving the kids a cube gives them ownership of the packing task. Responsibility and a small degree of decision-making.

I guess if 43 Matchbox cars make it to the campsite but no headlamp, that’s an affordable mistake in packing plunders for me to let them make. Plus, I don’t have to deal with the headache of 43 small cars in MY area.

Pack Like a Pro with Organization

Medium-sized cubes are sometimes used to organize our swim gear. First lay out a rashguard. Then place a pair of swim shorts on top, folded length-wise in half. Next, fold in the sleeves of the rashguard and roll the ensemble up.

We have a four-person family, BUT we are all big babies when it comes to wet and cold swim gear. That’s why we generally pack several outfits for each person, allowing dry time in between swim outings. This cube system allows us to have one swim bag that neatly confines all of our pool and ocean outfits to one place, leaving room to pack a wet/dry bag for after. It’s a thing of beauty!

I wouldn’t have believed we’d ever use something like a “Folder.” It seemed to top the list of geekery and would likely just add bulk to my suitcase. It seemed frivolous.

Until I tried it.

You see, traveling for work I actually needed to look “put-together” occasionally.

When you can’t get by with yoga pants and wrinkled dresses look tacky, a Folder is exactly how you can compress and preserve many blouses, dresses, skirts and slacks. The medium Folder is included with the Specter Cube Starter Set and fits perfectly into my carry-on luggage.

Day Use

I’ve never been a purse or diaper bag mom in the traditional sense. Normally, I tote my Kavu cross-body bag and stuff other needed things into it. Having kids didn’t really change that.

The Pack-It cubes are handy little grab-n-go mom bags for day to day use. You can fit a diaper or two, wipes, a change of clothes, an applesauce pouch and even a few teethers or toys in the cube for short outings. So I pretty much use my cubes ALL the time!

The Sweet Spot to Pack-It Like a Pro

You will find that when using the Eagle Creek cubes, as simple as it sounds, it DOES change your packing game. It will take a little getting used to.

We discovered that it’s still easier if WE adults get the kids outfits from the cubes to avoid the inevitable re-packing if they are majorly disrupted. I’ve got packing them down to a science, so little hands can prove to be small tornadoes when they get into the precisely packed cubes.

The small size has also been successfully used for our camping adventures to house everyone’s wool socks. When heading outdoors, we all like having fresh, cozy socks after our adventures. So, for one trip we used the small cube for nothing but socks. Effective.

No matter where you’re heading — flying here to there and packing a weight-dependent carry-on or simply toting everyday items here and there – Eagle Creek’s Pack-It Specter Cubes will get you to Grandma’s as easily as they’ll help get you to Grenada.

Pack wisely friends!
