Back in Marilyn Monroe’s day, air travel was seen as glamorous. Fashionable jet setters got dressed up to travel. Ladies might wear a dress, gentlemen a jacket and tie.
The days of dressing up for your flight have departed. Today’s savvy traveller knows comfort and efficiency are key.
Gone are the days of bringing a steam trunk along on vacation. Baggage fees have travellers increasingly making do with carry-ons, and packing clothes that do double duty. The classic ballet flat, made popular by Audrey Hepburn in the 1950s, is a great travel shoe.
Lacing up sneakers and buckling boots at security? That’s for amateurs. Smart fliers know a slip-on shoe is the way to go. Two of my favorite travel shoes are ballet flats: Cocorose London and Yosi Samra. Both brands make foldable shoes that pack up to next-to-nothing.
They both come in their own stylish little pouches that can easily be packed into a purse. When I get to O’Hare in my winter boots, I can easily grab my flats and change into vacation mode.
Being cozy during a flight is key. These ballet flats are like traveling in your slippers! But their hard bottoms mean they’re still a great walking shoe during your vacation, and they’re great for running through the airport when you’re late for a flight. Say hello to your sole mate!
