Picture_28Even though I have lived in New York City for over ten years, I still need help getting around the city. Here are my four favorite free iPhone apps that will help touring the city a little easier.

1. Sit or Squat – This application is pretty explanatory. After indicating your location, Sit or Squat uses the iPhone’s GPS to find out where toilets are located near you. Comes in pretty handy when your kids are getting antsy and need to go.

2. AroundMe – Another application that leverages the iPhone’s GPS to provide stores, restaurants, bars, coffee bars, banks, New York hotels, movies near your current location. It also maps the route so you don’t have to flounder around with a paper map.

3. Hopstop – This iPhone application replicates their website http://www. hopstop.com to provide you with detailed public transit directions whether you are traveling by subway, bus or waking.

4. Time Out New York (TONY) – This application provides you with a comprehensive listing of activities and events in the city.
