The French Alps are an absolutely beautiful winter wonderland offering some of the world’s best skiing. Along with the natural beauty, of course, comes equally beautiful resorts offering luxury accommodations and tons of activities. Club Med, with 20 family-friendly resorts in the Alps is offering it’s all-inclusive experience in its newest French Alps luxe family ski resort, Grand Massif Samoens-Morillon. From ski gear, lift tickets, and lessons at incredible ski domains to locally sourced cuisine, endless entertainment, kids’ clubs and more, Club Med resorts offer the perfect luxe getaway for all families whether you want to ski or just have fun in the snow.
Our family loves to ski, but thus far, our vacations have been limited to the United States. That recently changed for one of us. I was invited to experience the grand opening of Club Med’s Grand Massif Samoëns-Morillon, as well as check out its neighboring resort, Val Thorens Sensation. Both resorts offer so much more than just snow activities. If you feel like staying warm and cozy indoors, don’t worry, because the après ski entertainment is second to none.
What I also found is that these Club Med resorts are the perfect luxe getaway for all families, whether you want to ski or just have fun in the snow. Your family will never be bored and here’s 5 great reasons why…
The Perfect French Alps Luxe Family Ski Resort
Both Grand Massif and Val Thorens are situated within an incredible, picturesque backdrop. Snow-covered mountains can be found as far as the eye can see. Grand Massif is located in the Plateau des Saix, close to Geneva and Annecy. It’s perfect for an authentic ski-in/ski-out mountain experience in the heart of the Grand Massif ski domain. You notice immediately that no matter where you are on the property, you have an unobstructed panoramic view of the Samoëns-Morillon valley. This includes views from your very own balcony.
Val Thorens isn’t too shabby either. Located in Europe’s biggest ski domain, the snowy scenery is incredible. You actually feel like you’re living in a real life snow globe.
The snow in the Alps is unbeatable. Gliding down the slopes literally felt effortless on the fresh powder. When it comes to skiing and snowboarding, both these contemporary resorts offer a virtually limitless landscape to explore! Val Thorens features nearly 200 lifts and 400 miles of slopes. Grand Massif has nearly 150 runs over 160 miles. Moreover, a particularly awesome aspect of Club Med is its “Easy Arrival” program. Thanks to the easy check-in procedure, I had all my gear, skis, boots, and all waiting for me in my heated locker.
Each of my ski instructors were beyond helpful, patient, and such a pleasure to learn from. Whether you’re an experienced skier or a beginner, Grand Massif connects with five ski resorts, so the slope options are endless. That means you can enjoy skiing as a whole family on the wider runs more suitable for the kids or choose to jump on the more technical runs if you’re feeling up for it.
Because everyone’s idea of fun is different, especially when traveling with your family, it’s crucial to have options. Luckily for Club Med guests, options abound! Though I mostly skied, you can also choose to spend your day sledding, snowmobiling, mountain biking, using the climbing wall at Val Thorsens, or whatever else your heart desires!
Just for Kids
For starters, Grand Massif has kids’ clubs and activities for kids aged four months to 17 years. There’s Baby Club Med for children aged 4 to 23 months, Petit Club Med for children aged 2 to 3 years, and Mini Club Med for children aged 4 to 10 years. These clubs offer various creative workshops, such as the Music Academy, Art Studio, and the Game Factory. Then there’s Passworld, which is exclusively for kids aged 11 to 17. They’ll enjoy a range of activities that include film making, a DJ booth, a dance floor, and video games.
Making life as easy as it can be for parents, Grand Massif resort has two ski rooms for children with direct access to the Mini Club for kids and the slopes. The resort offers an “introduction to snow” ski instruction starting at age 4 and snowboard instruction at age 12. Hiking, snowshoe, and Nordic walking are also available, so they’ll have plenty to do. At Val Thorens, kids can participate in tobogganing, mountain biking, and more.
Something you don’t find often is a restaurant dedicated just for the kids; Grand Massif’s Bread & Co. is all that and more. It gives kids the chance to live out their culinary dreams by inviting them to play ‘petits chefs.’ Amazing and great fun!
Food and Entertainment
The food at Club Med in the Alps is a delicious combo of local cuisine with a French flair. Personally, I ate a whole lot of charcuterie, indulged in a wide variety of cheeses, ate a copious amount of fondue and raclette, and thoroughly enjoyed starting each morning with a croissant or two. Both resorts offer a mix of international cuisine, buffet style, giving you all the options you could possible want come meal time. But you can always opt for a drink and light bites at one of their various upscale, modern bar areas.

Club Med also offers all day childcare in case you feel like enjoying a drink at the bar or going out for the night. Each night offers the most fun entertainment ranging from live music and DJs to dancing and performances. Every night felt like a grand celebration and I had the time of my life partying away!
No vacation is complete without some luxurious pampering, am I right? For guests at these Club Med resorts, figuring out how to unwind post-skiing is as simple as can be. You can choose from a range of luxe massages, facials, and even treatments specifically designed for recuperating apres ski.
Grand Massif features two swimming pools, a hair salon, a steam room, and sauna. Everything you’d expect in a luxe family ski resort. In addition, there’s a fitness area that offers guest classes such as yoga and Pilates. Val Thorens also offers guests a decked out fitness center, Turkish bath, steam room, and sauna. After a day on the slopes, there’s nothing like getting nice and toasty pre-or post- massage!
One final note...Each employee at Club Med is incredibly nice and friendly. By the end of your stay, don’t be surprised if you feel like you’re one big family. I did!
