When is the best time of year to visit Atlantis Paradise Island? Any time you can, really. It’s a beautiful resort. The Aquaventure water park is over-the-top awesome and the tropical Bahamian weather is almost always warm and wonderful.

That said, there are times when it’s better than others to visit — times when there are fewer crowds, less chance of rain or more local festivities.

So let’s dive into the details.

What is the Weather Like in The Bahamas?

The climate in The Bahamas is sub-tropical, and according to Weather.com, the temperatures in The Bahamas stay generally in the upper 70s to low 90s.

There are pretty much two seasons in The Bahamas: Wet and Dry. The Wet Season is from June through November, which is also the hurricane season. The height of the tropical activity is traditionally between August and October. However, brief heavy showers are common throughout the year. They call them Liquid Sunshine! The Dry Season, which is much cooler and less humid, is between December and May.

So, what do you wear? Bright colored loose airy clothing is the recommended daytime wear, while a light sweater or jacket should be part of your travel gear during the Dry Season.

When is Junkanoo?

Junkanoo, the popular folk art festival celebrating Bahamian culture, happens in December, January and July.

Highlighted by street parades on Bay Street in downtown Nassau, Junkanoo showcases the colorful costumes, lively music and exuberant dances of the local culture. The parades happen on Boxing Day (December 26) and New Year’s Day (January 1) and on Saturdays throughout the month of July.

I highly recommend planning a family vacation to coincide with Junkanoo — it’s a spectacle everyone should see, and my kids absolutely love! In fact, while staying at Atlantis, guests can enjoy the excitement of a Junkanoo Rush every Tuesday and Friday in the Marina Village at 9pm.

Other Festivals

The family-friendly Atlantis resort has its own list of special events year-round, ranging from kids’ art programs to a wine and food festival to a men’s college basketball tournament. You can see the full list here.

In addition, other Bahamas Islands have their own events, such as the Pineapple Festival on the island of Eleuthera and Crab Fest on Andros.

Do the Bahamas Get Hurricanes?

Potentially, yes. The Bahamas is in the Caribbean hurricane belt. However, in the event of a hurricane affecting your getaway, Atlantis Bahamas has a Hurricane Guarantee:

In the event that a hurricane watch or warning is issued by the United States’ National Hurricane Center within fourteen (14) days prior to your date of arrival for either your travel origin city or for New Providence, The Bahamas, guests with confirmed reservations can cancel your reservation up to the moment of scheduled departure. You then have the option to rebook your vacation without penalties for a stay to be completed within one (1) year of the original arrival date.

You can see a full list of the terms and conditions here.
