Luxury in The City: Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta
Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta provides the highest level of customer service and that means warmly welcoming all guests. I stayed over for a girlfriend staycation to celebrate a friend’s 40th birthday. But honestly, more than once during the weekend, I wished I had brought my family along. I’m sure they would have had enjoyed the service just as much as I did.
It is a five-star property and that would usually give me reservations about bringing along my four- and eight-year old boys. After seeing the children’s menus and talking with other guests, I knew that children are not only welcomed. They’re celebrated!

The Details on Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta
Our main objective for this staycation was to celebrate the birthday girl, provide her (and ourselves) a little relaxation and reconnect as girlfriends, not just three busy moms. Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta helped us exceed this goal in every way. It was a full multi-sensory luxury experience. From the dining and the spa services to even just walking through the public areas and viewing the art, we found ourselves immersed in calm and beauty.
Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta proved they are all about the details over the course of our stay. The staff at the property wished our honoree a “Happy Birthday” at every turn, making her feel truly special. Knowing that we had three people in our room, the Mandarin Oriental provided three robes, three slippers and even three shower caps in the vanity drawer.

TravelingMom Tip: The Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta has a special packages with nearby businesses. Seasonal offers may include gift cards for shopping or tickets to the Atlanta Ballet.
Over the course of the weekend, I came to appreciate just how wonderful its location was. We started the weekend off with a dinner party at a nearby restaurant and were only a three-minute drive to the hotel. The next morning after visiting the Spa, we were able to take advantage of a crisp Fall day and walk a few blocks for shopping, leaving our cars in the valet and not fighting Atlanta traffic. If the weather hadn’t been so nice, the hotel offers a complimentary car service that would have dropped us for shopping as well.

Don’t overlook the attention to details in the design and décor of the hotel. My personal favorite details were the welcome aromatherapy based upon their own signature line of scents as well as the curated art collection found throughout the hotel public spaces.
Rooms at the Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta
Rooms in the Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta reflect its luxury status but aren’t pretentious. I felt welcome to come in and treat it as my own home away from home. The décor is a mix of traditional and contemporary, with special details like gallery lighting over the art above the beds and velvet wingback chairs.
When my girlfriend, the honoree, came in, she asked if we had been upgraded because of the room size. We weren’t. Even the standard sized room is a very generous size.
The layout is also a non-traditional hotel space that works for more than one person sharing the room. We entered by walking through a large foyer. There’s an entrance to the bathroom directly to the right. Walking into the bathroom hallway is a countertop and drawers for storing clothing. I appreciated this because if you’re getting dressed after taking a shower, you don’t have to enter the main sleeping area to get clothes.
Sleeping in at the Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta
Our standard room with two queen beds also included a sitting area with two chairs and an ottoman, a writing desk and a large open space that is perfect for families traveling with children. The room was large enough that each of us had our own space for spreading out. I could easily see myself working at the desk while one son played with a set of Legos on the floor and the other played on his tablet and my husband watched a game on the plasma TV.
The bathroom was easily a reason that I’ll never wanted to leave. Its double vanities and a separate soaking tub with a TV-view were pure luxury. The design of the bathroom is an easy wow factor. Granite countertops provided plenty space on the vanities for the multiple shampoos, lotions and other products. What do you expect when three women travel?

The indoor 60-foot lap pool looks out on the English garden. It opens at 5:30 a.m. so if you’re up for it, you can start the day with a swim.

The Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta offers an onsite spa, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental. In its 15,000 square feet of luxury, The Spa offers a full suite of services. There’s even a special couples suite for services.
During our visit, my girlfriends and I experienced the signature Oriental Massage, a 50-minute full body massage. The massage was one of the best I’ve ever experienced. A plus – their treatments rooms are very insulated. The temperature of the room was adjusted to each person’s desires and the masseuse did an amazing job working out my stressful like.
Other nice details in the spa include indoor and outdoor (balcony) relaxation areas. The outdoor relaxation area is just comfortable as the indoor, with chaise lounges in groups for sitting with friends and catching up pre- or post-services.
