What Doesn’t Work for Families

Hotel Amenities & Recreation
Pretty much anywhere you go on this expansive property, you can look to the west and see the ocean. With a private pedestrian bridge, guests have direct access to the beach without having to brave crossing the busy PCH. The hotel provides complimentary beach towels and chairs, so you can swim, surf, sunbathe, jog, skate, bicycle or just sit and enjoy the blazing bonfires that Huntington Beach is known for.
There are two pool areas plus a lushly landscaped spa grotto. Slyders is a $4 million kids’ pool complex, complete with three water slides, a main pool, a wading pool and a hot tub. We spent the afternoon at Slyders in a private cabana; a luxurious splurge but a great way to stay relaxed in the shade. At night, there are “Dive-In Movies” and other activities out by the pool for families to enjoy.
The Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa has an exclusive on-site retail shopping plaza called The Village. The Village features boutiques, a bike and surfboard rental shop, restaurants, and Surf City Grocers, for gourmet snacks, pastries, wine, and Starbucks Coffee.
The resort also features Camp Hyatt, where kids ages 11 and under play games, do crafts, and hit the beach, with a specific theme for each days’ activities. The camp is available for half- or full days, plus evenings on the weekends—great for planning spa time or a grownup night out.
But perhaps the best thing about the Hyatt is its location. Besides its perfect beachside setting, the resort is located just a short drive from Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, the Aquarium of the Pacific and many other Orange County and Los Angeles area attractions.
The resort features 517 guestrooms, all with private balconies and many with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean.
Rooms are nice decorated with a palette of warm, rich tones. In-room amenities include two-line telephones, high-speed wi-fi, 42 inch flat screen televisions, built-in safes, iPod docks, refrigerators, pillow-top mattresses and down duvets, hair dryers, bathrobes, irons and high-end toiletry items.
We stayed in a room with two queens and found the beds very comfortable. It was also nice having a big comfy chair in addition to the two beds, as well as an oversized desk where my son promptly planted himself with his laptop.
Even if you opt for a standard view instead of an ocean view, you will be pleasantly surprised. All rooms overlook the gardens, courtyard, pool or beach. There are literally no bad views!
The Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach is also home to six restaurants serving everything from pizza to cocktails to upscale contemporary cuisine.
Watertable is the resort’s signature restaurant and gastropub. The menu features innovative contemporary American fare paired with a distinguished selection of vintage world-class wines, artisanal cocktails and local craft brews. They have an amazing buffet breakfast featuring lots of unique, tasty and upscale items you normally wouldn’t find at a breakfast buffet – such as gourmet cheeses and egg dishes.
Adjacent to the resort’s large lagoon-style pool, Mankota’s Grill features patio seating near with a bubbling fountain and fire pit for a relaxed dining experience. They also offer poolside service.
Pete’s Sunset Grille is a great place to enjoy tacos and soak in the beachside atmosphere. But our favorite meal of the entire trip was ordering a pizza to go from Tower 15 Pizzeria in The Village and enjoying it at night by one of the resort’s fire pits.
