If you’re dreaming of a beach getaway this summer, there’s no better place than Loews Coronado Bay Resort on Coronado Island, just across the bay from San Diego. Surrounded by shoreline, Loews is an upscale resort, offering unparalleled amenities, easy beach access, family-friendly activities and panoramic views of the San Diego skyline. Find out why this resort was named one of the “Top 10 Family Beach Vacations in the U.S. and Caribbean” by Parents magazine.

Loews Coronado Bay Resort is located on a private peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Diego Bay, just four miles from downtown Coronado and 15 miles from San Diego International Airport. The resort features direct access to the crashing waves of Silver Strand State Beach, three swimming pools and tennis courts, a private 80-slip marina, and 440 beautiful guestrooms and suites. All rooms have a furnished balcony or terrace, most with lovely water views. An array of year-round activities takes full advantage of the resort’s waterfront setting.

What Works for Families

• Easy access to the beach.
• Spacious, comfortable rooms.
• Just a short drive to San Diego’s world-famous attractions, including the San Diego Zoo, Sea World and Balboa Park.
• The hotel offers child-proofing kits for families with children under 4.
• Charge! Rooms have 6 electrical outlets and 2 USB ports in the desk, desk lamp and bedside lamps so it’s easy to charge devices.
• A wealth of onsite activities keeps kids happy and busy.
• A complimentary “Loews Loves Kids” gift upon arrival for children under 10.
• Loews Go Wild! Kids Camp provides fun crafts and activities for kids ages 5-12, so parents can enjoy their adult time!
• Complimentary beach chairs, towels and boogie boards for hotel guests.
• Pets are welcome (up to 40 pounds), but note Loews charges a $100 per stay fee.

What Doesn’t Work for Families

• There are some extra costs to keep in mind, such as a $26 per day resort fee and $33 per night valet parking.
• While there’s enough on site to keep you busy for days, there is not much else is in walking distance. For some this may actually be a perk – it was for us!

The Hotel

Let me just say it – we loved this hotel! The Loews Coronado Bay Resort is the perfect escape for families who love luxury hotels but not the pretentiousness that often comes along with them. No snobbery here. It is beautiful and upscale, but you don’t have to be afraid to let your kids run through in their swimsuits!

Loews Coronado Bay Resort has recently undergone a complete redesign of its lobby, Bay Terrace, and some of its eateries, right on the heels of additional renovations to the hotel’s corridors, meeting space and guestrooms. The results are – especially the lobby area – breathtaking.

Framed by the staircase, San Diego’s sparkling bay is the first thing guests see when entering the lobby. A two-story chandelier of suspended glass adds drama to the resort’s grand staircase and the clock projected onto the lobby floor encourages guests to lose track of time while they enjoy the seaside resort. My son loved this whimsical touch!

    Amenities

Guess which hotel was named one of the “Top 10 Family Beach Vacations in the U.S. and Caribbean” by Parents magazine? Yep, this one.
And here’s why – there are TONS of awesome activities for families to enjoy, and many are included as part of the resort fee. The resort’s seasonal recreations program includes pizza-making classes, nature walks, sunset sailing excursions, art classes, bayside marshmallow roasts and more.

With three heated pools – one of which is adults only – you’ll find plenty of outdoor fun. During the summer, there are live DJs and poolside activities such as raft races and limbo contests, and at night you can enjoy a Dive-In Movie.

Going to the beach? It’s just a short walk away and the hotel provides complimentary beach chairs, towels and boogie boards. Surf lessons are also available.

The hotel’s onsite marina rents power boats, jet skis, sail boats, kayaks, wave runners, stand-up paddleboards and bikes. You can also go on a water skiing excursion or take a gondola ride. The Gondola Company is located next to Loews Coronado Bay Resort and Spa and offers 50 minute rides through the area’s canals, complete with blankets, complimentary appetizers and desserts.

Kids can embark on an interactive scavenger hunt through the resort. Grab a free worksheet from the front desk and answer the questions, then redeem for a tasty treat!

The 10,000-square-foot Sea Spa features a tranquil garden area. Sea Spa features 15 luxurious treatment rooms – including a couple’s suite and four outdoor treatment areas.

Other hotel amenities include a fitness center, salon, ping pong courts, and three lighted tennis courts.

    Dining

Loews Coronado Bay Resort has two full service restaurants and a variety of spots to grab a quick drink or meal. Mistral is the hotel’s signature restaurant and is open for dinner only. It is pricey, so best left for special occasions or couples only. The Market Café is perfectly lovely and the food is good and reasonably priced. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet. With both indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the marina, the views can’t be beat!

La Cantina is the hotel’s lively poolside bar, and they serve salads, burgers and Mexican food that you can enjoy out by the pool.

    Healthy Tip for This Destination

The fitness center at Loews is one of the nicest I’ve ever seen, with views of the Pacific Ocean and San Diego skyline. Try out a spin or yoga class, or check out the full range of cardio and strength equipment. And if the views aren’t enough to keep you going, the gym features flat-screen LCD TVs.
This summer, take advantage of the Stay Longer, Save More offer, which lets you save up to 20% when you stay for three nights. Find out more at https://www.loewshotels.com/coronado-bay-resort
