Hotel Review: Hôtel Château Laurier Québec, Quebec City

With its commitment to preserving its Francophone heritage, Hôtel Château Laurier Québec offers the ideal experience to enhance your visit to Quebec City. The hotel is a mix of contemporary style with a nod to the historic French influence. The hospitality of the staff is outstanding for parents who need bottles sterilized or want directions to landmarks. The downtown location is ideal for families who want to sightsee without the hassle of figuring out transportation. Parents can enjoy wine by the glass through the wine vending machines while the kids are occupied playing by the beautiful fireplace or entertaining themselves on their devices hooked up to free Wi-Fi.

Nestled between The Plains of Abraham, a tranquil urban park and bustling Grand Allée Street, the hub for dining and dancing in the city, Hôtel Château Laurier was an easy access location for our weekend stay in Quebec City. The hotel was in the beautifully landscaped neighborhood of Parliament Hill, a few blocks from the only remaining fortified area in North America.

Hôtel Château Laurier, a family-owned four-star establishment makes its mark as a luxury hotel that welcomes families. The hospitality we received while visiting with my three year old son and infant daughter makes in an unforgettable experience during our end-of-summer road trip through the Quebec region.

The Hotel

The location could not be more ideal when traveling with young kids. We could walk to many places of interest such as the Parliament, historic district inside the fortified walls and Grand Allée Street. The city park, Plains of Abraham only a few blocks away was where we spent playtime with the kids.

The hotel consists of more than 250 rooms. The banquet and catering facilities makes this a great candidate for a destination wedding.

Hôtel Château Laurier Québec is the first “francoresponsible” hotel in North America. This label indicates its commitment to and respect for French language and culture. Though the initial interaction maybe in French, the staff can greet guests in several languages and certainly accommodate English speakers. Guests will be immersed in a French heritage through the music that fills the halls or the artwork that decorates the walls. This interaction helped our son pick up some basic French vocabulary.

The Room

There is a range of room offerings that accommodate singles to extended families. We stayed in a Classic Room with two double beds, a large desk and a couple of lounge chairs. There was sufficient floor space for my son to spread around his toys and for my daughter’s crib and stroller.

The furniture and décor was stylish and modern. The Contemporary Room is another option for families that offers a bigger room with two queen sized beds.

If you’re looking for luxury, rooms with a fireplace, king sized beds and suites are also available. Though our room didn’t have any special view, there are plenty of rooms that offer beautiful views of the Plains of Abraham.

Amenities

Parents will be delighted by the choice of wines offered by the glass through an electronic vending machine. We could let the kids relax by the spacious fireplace in the lobby while we enjoyed a glass of wine without having to take the kids to a bar. There were also delicious cappuccino machine for parents needing their caffeine fix.

The indoor salt water pool, fitness center, sauna and outdoor hot tubs available to all guests. The hotel also has a branch of the renowned spa Payot Institute for guests looking pamper themselves with any body treatments.

Known as the “Treasure Chest”, Hotel Chateau Laurier Quebec has ongoing arrangements with local businesses to offer its guests a range of discounts in dining and shopping. The front desk staff will happy to hand over coupons for discounts up to 10-15% with a list of participating stores.

Dining

The hotel has a full service restaurant St-Hubert, a local family restaurant chain known for its roasted chicken. You can enjoy patio seating with a great view of Grand Allée Street. Guests can also indulge in room service or a continental breakfast buffet at the hotel.
