Acqualina, Miami
Acqualina is one of my favorite beachfront resorts for families in Florida. Service is completely over the top. There are several pools between its building and the ocean. And there are lawns where the offspring of the hotel’s international clientele play soccer wearing their Emirates jerseys.
For Easter, the hotel transforms this great lawn with themed games including an obstacle course, bouncy houses, a photo booth, and DJ in the afternoon on the Saturday before Easter.
The Acqualina offers some of the most spacious guest rooms for families. Even standard rooms feature king-size beds and sleeper sofas. Acqualina is north of Miami Beach in Sunny Isles. It is easily reachable from both the Miami and Fort Lauderdale airports. Sunny Isles is my favorite area for families wanting to enjoy Miami’s beaches without experiencing the club and party scene of Miami Beach.
Omni Mount Washington, New Hampshire
The Omni Mount Washington is an iconic New Hampshire resort. Its gleaming white building and red-tiled roof can be seen for miles.
This hotel has a strong historical feel. It is one of New England’s surviving original grand mountain resorts from the 19th century. Easter feels very traditional here, with a Spring tea party, bonnet making, and egg decoration in addition to the large egg hunt.
Although the historic rooms can be smaller than modern hotel rooms, the spa is completely modern. My husband and I lingered in the co-ed lounge after our massages while the kids played in the kids’ club.
The Langham Huntington, Pasadena
The Langham Huntington in Pasadena, just east of downtown Los Angeles, really knows how to do holidays well for both local families and those traveling from afar.
Langham starts its Easter celebration with a petting zoo in the Horseshoe garden that features goats, chickens, and bunnies.
Every child who is a guest for one of the Easter brunches receives an Easter basket filled with special treats from the hunt. The Easter Bunny is there to guide the children.
I love that the Langham Huntington offers three different types of Easter brunches. It means families can find exactly what they’re looking for:
- A traditional brunch in the Royce steakhouse, which is sleek and modern in white and royal blue.
- Branch in one of the hotel’s large formal ballrooms with live music and complimentary champagne.
- A dim sum brunch on the terrace.
The Langham Huntington has beautiful gardens on the property that are fantastic places to photograph kids in their Sunday best. Head to the red bridge in the gardens at the beginning or end of your visit for great lighting. I snapped pics in that garden throughout my stay because it was so tranquil.
Four Seasons Orlando at Walt Disney World
The Four Seasons Orlando is the ultimate option for the Orlando bound family.
Although the public is welcome to enjoy brunch at the resorts’ restaurants for Easter, the real golden eggs await those lucky enough to stay overnight, as activities are open to resort guests only.
Fable, the resort store, has some of the most adorable Disney and general children’s gifts I have seen. The adult clothing boutique across the hall has featured mouse ears by Missoni or Eugenia Kim. It’s easy to find ways for the most stylish Disney fan to get decked out.
Guests can have pay a fee to have an Easter basket of Fable products delivered by the Easter bunny himself on Sunday morning.
There will be an egg hunt in the ballroom and pictures with the Easter Bunny as well as a carnival that includes face painting, balloon art, and carnival games.
The pools at the Four Seasons Orlando are legendary and paradise for parents and kids alike. We forget Disney World is minutes away once we check in to the resort.
If you can’t stay overnight to get a photo with the Easter Bunny, get a family photo in front of the large golden egg sculpture outside the spa entrance.
Fairmont Grand Del Mar
The Fairmont Grand Del Mar is one of my favorite resorts. It fuses a decadent feel of uber luxury while remaining completely family friendly and Southern California mellow.
The resort hides more than 5,000 eggs on its sprawling lawn. Easter festivities also include photos with the Easter Bunny, face painting, cookie decorating, and other crafts. A champagne brunch in the hotel’s ballroom tops off the festivities.
Just a few miles from the Northern San Diego beaches, The Fairmont Grand Del Mar has a very Tuscan vibe. There’s a walking path that encases the whole property that my family loved taking slowly to soak up in its landscape architecture and views.
The Lotte New York Palace
The Lotte New York Palace is well located to get the most out of a New York City Easter weekend. What’s fun about the property is that the public areas are part of a private residence with spectacular Gilded Age mosaics and tiling, and ceilings so beautiful you’ll get a crick in your neck. The Tower hotel rooms are in a modern skyscraper, and the suites are some of the largest in the city, making them an ideal choice for a luxe family shopping break in the city.
For Easter, the hotel will host several egg hunts in the grand lobby. Children also can decorate their own Easter picture frame and get a picture with the Easter Bunny. They receive their personally decorated frame and event picture at the conclusion of the egg hunt.
Pomme Palais is the hotel’s bakery and café. It offers truly memorable macaroons, chocolates, and cakes. What’s better than a rich chocolate cake covered in ganache and decorated with macaroons?
The Cloister at Sea Island
For the ultimate in traditional and Southern, head to The Cloister at Sea Island. My family fell in love with the Golden Isles of Georgia and this fully updated historic property. Easter Festivities include time-honored traditions such as the Sand Bunny Building Contest, the Bunny Hop, a one-mile Fun Run, and breakfast with the Easter Bunny .
Don’t miss the annual Egg-Stravaganza and Easter Egg Hunt scattered among five fields. Kids, all in their Sunday finest, scoop up the coveted golden egg. Given The Cloister’s ability to push everything to the outermost limits of decadence, it is no surprise to me they the hotel hides the most eggs for its events: 10,000.
And don’t miss out on Bingo, a big tradition at Sea Island. It’s usually at 9 P.M. after dinner, but there is an earlier game at 5 P.M. before dinner on this holiday weekend. If you’ve never belonged to a Southern country club to play Bingo, this is your chance. Family friendly, but it gets rowdy as the jackpots get bigger as the games go on. Every boy and some men sport their navy blazers and khakis while most little girls wear the Lily Pulitzer catalog. If you aren’t from the south, it will be a particular treat.
And a Few More Hotel Egg Hunts to Consider for Easter Weekend
Although I haven’t yet been to these resorts, their original take on family programming for Easter has impressed me, and I can’t wait to visit these properties.
Suncadia Resort
About 80 miles east of Seattle is the Suncadia Resort, located in the town of Cle Elum. Children can enjoy the whole Easter weekend with activities like Bunny deliveries straight to their hotel room, Easter basket making classes, egg dying, and more. Suncadia will have four creative egg hunts:
- The classic 12th annual community hunt at Dawson Park
- A night-time Glow-tastic hunt
- An underwater hunt
- The EggStravaganza at the resort’s Inn.
End the weekend on a high note at the Hippity Hop After Party where kids can get their face painted, or visit the petting zoo while parents can enjoy a Mimosa and Bloody Mary Bar.
Abbey Resort
Located on the shores of Lake Geneva in Wisconsin, the Abbey Resort and Avani Spa is just a short drive from Chicago. Easter activities and crafts for the little ones include an indoor petting zoo, Easter cupcake and donut decorating, egg hunts, and Easter Peep S’mores at the harbor-side bonfire. Programming for older kids and adults includes making take-home crafts such as bath salts, springtime sugar scrubs, bird feeders, mason jar lanterns and even jewelry.
The Abbey Resort will arrange, for a fee, for the Easter Bunny himself to deliver a personalized Easter Pail to the child’s guest room. The gift includes the child’s name and a variety of toys, activities, Easter egg cookie and candy. Parents should book the surprise visit by Tuesday, March 22.
Montage Deer Valley
Montage Deer Valley offers an active Easter-themed weekend for families, kicking off the festivities with Peeps and traditional S’mores. Families move along to a bowling tournament with prizes awarded for each strike. The first strike earns an Easter egg, the second some bunny ears, and those skilled or exceptionally lucky who bowl a turkey (three strikes in a row) win the grand prize. Sunday is celebrated traditionally with an egg hunt and family brunch, and one lucky guest will find the grand prize golden egg.
Four Seasons Austin
For the past decade and a half, children staying at the downtown Austin hotel wake up to the Easter bunny at their door presenting them with a chocolate bunny, Peep and toy-filled Easter basket. Each year, an average of 50 kids receives this festive (and free) wake-up call, making for a memorable holiday.
Later that day, there’s an Easter Egg Hunt on the hotel’s sprawling back lawn. More than 1,000 candy- and toy-filled eggs are strewn throughout the lawn and hidden in nooks and crannies. Nine “Golden Eggs” contain bigger prizes–soccer balls, board games, bubble blowers and more. There are three separate start times to accommodate different age groups to ensure everyone gets their fair share of eggs.
And Just for Teens: Reunion Resort, Orlando Area
The Reunion Resort is just west of Disney World and offers a standard egg hunt for kids up to age 12 and brunch at their gated community resort made up of villas, suites, and private homes.
I love that Reunion has thought about your teenager who can’t hunt for eggs with younger kids. For teens aged 13-18, there is a night-before egg hunt at the resort waterpark using flashlights.
For a fee, the resort will also deliver Easter baskets to each child. The baskets are delivered on Sunday morning. Taunt your teens with one, too, reminding them how much fun they had the night before on Easter egg hunts.
What fun! Thanks for putting this comprehensive list together. Considering a holiday over Easter is a great idea!
