Florida’s hidden gem Streamsong Resort is located in inland central Florida. Streamsong is an unexpected VIP escape for discerning travelers who crave a personalized luxury resort experience in an inspiring natural setting. This unique resort is especially ideal for an adult getaway to unplug and reconnect.

Hidden Gem Streamsong Resort

An hour drive from Tampa and an hour and a half from Orlando, among orange groves and massive farmlands lies a secluded Oasis in Central Florida. Tucked within 16,000 acres. the term “hidden gem” is often an overused cliché, but that is exactly what Streamsong Resort is. Already renowned for its award-winning golf, Streamsong guests can truly get away and focus on important interactions, free from the distractions and crowds found in beach, city or theme park properties.

Designed by Alfonso Architects, the modern building built in 2014 is in stark contrast to the rural area., built on approximately 16,000 acres of former phosphate mine land in Polk County, Florida. I had to do a double-take when my phone’s GPS said that we had reached our destination. A rustic metal sign indicated the resort’s entrance off a random backroad route. It felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, so as our vehicle continued up the driveway to Streamsong, we no longer knew what to expect. Driving over wooden bridges and past lush green fairways, the resort finally came into view and my mouth dropped open.

The resort has a modern lodge feel reminiscent of a Vail resort with floor to ceiling windows that look out at the natural settings surrounding it including a beautiful lake. The sleek dark building reminded me of the Clinton Presidential Library in Arkansas, a building you just wanted to continue staring at to admire its curves and unusual design.

Streamsong Resort Lodge & Clubhouse

Inside is just as impressive and luxurious. Streamsong features 216 spacious guest rooms in the main “Lodge.” Our lake view room had amazing shutters that let in natural light while providing a nonobstructive view of the water. I posted a photo on Instagram and my friends and followers were shocked to discover the view was from Florida.

The room also included a large bathroom, robes, an in-room mini-refrigerator and several classic library novels ranging from The Count of Monte Cristo to Little Women. The English major in me rejoiced.

I would have been content to simply read one of the provided books while looking out at the peaceful lake.

However, there was more to do than just that, including a rooftop terrace; bass fishing; sporting clays; archery, a nature trail; a grotto-style spa; fitness center; outdoor infinity pool with cabanas and four casual and fine dining options.

Despite the fact that there is no real town nearby, believe me you won’t miss it. Everything you need is right there in the resort.

Dining Options in the Lodge:

  • P205  A café-style restaurant in the lobby offers guests all day dining options featuring the best of Floridian cuisine including Apalachicola oysters, conch chowder and key lime pie. We ate here for lunch and loved the Steak Tips appetizer.
  • Sotto Terra At this full-service, fine dining restaurant, guests savor fresh, contemporary Italian cuisine from a five-course prix fixe menu. The scallops with pesto linguini was our favorite.
  • Fragmentary Blue offers sweeping views of the resort at this contemporary roof-top bar and lounge with indoor and outdoor dining options featuring small plates showcasing American pub cuisine.

The “Clubhouse,” meanwhile is a short drive away from the Lodge where guests play golf on two of the most highly acclaimed courses in the nation, both listed by Golf Magazine as the Top 100 Courses in the U.S. (ranked #47 in 2015). The Clubhouse also includes an additional 12 rooms and Restaurant Fifty-Nine. This elegant steak and seafood-themed eatery offers all day dining with golf course views. (although we only dined here for breakfast).

Streamsong Resort Spa

While I was expecting and not disappointed to find an equally high-end spa on property, I was further surprised at the unique cave-like design and features that kept it from being a run-of-the-mill hotel spa. AcquaPietra, the resort’s 7,000 square foot European-style grotto spa with therapeutic water treatments, including five dipping pools an arctic cascade to a 104 degree hot tub; nine treatment rooms for massages and facials; and a sauna and steam room with light therapy. I experienced a relaxing 50-minute Swedish massage that was truly relaxing and came with gifts after of chocolates and a small bottle of lotion.

Overall Take on Streamsong Resort

The property delivers an inspiring, intimate experience in a serenely natural setting unlike any other I’ve seen.

TIP: Like most of Florida, Streamsong is busiest in-season during November to April. If you can visit off-season though you’ll have an even more secluded experience and at a better rate. Right now in July fares can be had for only $141 a night.

The Downside: I would not recommend this resort for those traveling with younger children. Streamsong is tailored to adults. I mainly spotted couples and businessmen on a golfing/work trips. I could see it being a fun destination wedding spot too and great for older bachelor parties.

Bottom Line: I look forward to going back for another adult weekend getaway with my husband and maybe another couple this time. He can play golf and I can visit the spa and blog with a view. Win/win.

I am just as surprised as you are about the rustic metal sign in the middle of nowhere: who knew? I live just a bit north of this destination and had no idea. Thanks for the tips.
