Hawaii Wine and Food
Russel Siu’s Salmon When I am traveling, I love to find local food events that give me a taste of the region, people, and arts. Ko’ Olina Resort hosted the annual Hawaii Wine and Food two-day event on May 20th and 21st. I attended the Grand tasting and fashion show, featuring Food Network star and host of “Secrets of a Restaurant Chef,” Chef Anne Burrell as well as other of Hawaii’s notable and talented chefs.
I really love events like this and highly recommend it since it is so much more than just great food. For $100 you can be right on one of the most stunning beaches surrounded by waterfalls and swaying palm trees. Then you have the entertainment factor. There was a Jazz quartet and two fashion shows. Then there was the yummy food and wine tasting. For this event I was surprised by the variety of spirit tastings. There was lychee martinis, local made beer, tequila, rum, and many wineries present. Even though it is a tasting there was many different chefs from Russel Siu, Goran Streng, to D. K. Kodama. We were full before we even got around the circle.
I was able to meet Anne Burrell and taste her citrus Farro with shrimp. I loved that it was a healthy dish and I tried my best to re-create it last night. Although, I have to say my favorite dish of the night was D.K. Kodamo’s Butter Poached Kona Lobster Ramen with Asian Truffle Broth. It was a tasty and different version of the classic ramen soup that is so popular here in Hawaii.
