Tom McCall Waterfront ParkOn the east side of downtown Portland, Oregon, along the Willamette River, is Tom McCall Waterfront Park: it’s the perfect place to take your family for free fun in Portland, especially on a hot day.

In 2012 Waterfront Park was voted as one of the top 10 green spaces in America by the American Planning association. Here you can enjoy a little over 36 acres of grassy areas and two fountains for kids to play in, the Salmon Street Springs and Bill Naito Legacy Fountain. On a warm day, there will be lots of kids playing in the fountains. The are bike paths here connect to Springwater Corridor, which has over 20 miles of biking. Here you can enjoy a picnic, boat watching, an occasional fireworks show and tour the Oregon Maritime Center and Museum. For military families on a budget this is a great place to spend a day.

Waterfront Park is also home to the famous Saturday Market, which runs from early March until Christmas. It’s open on Saturdays from 10 AM – 5 PM and on Sundays from 11 AM – 4:30 PM. Some fun things at the market include arts, crafts, food, and live music.

Waterfront Park hosts a variety of festivals throughout the year including the Waterfront Blues Festival, The Bite of Oregon Festival, Oregon Brewers Festival, and many of the Rose Festival events.
